2001 Camaro LS1 6 Speed Clutch problem!

Hey all, I need some help. My buddy ripped the hell out of my 2001 LS1 6 Speed Camaro. The clutch was tight before and the next day the pedal is soft and seems to get softer still. It seems to hold gears still, but when I release the pedal it comes all of the way to the top before it seems to release completely. What problem am I looking at besides my stupidity for letting him drive it?

Sounds like what is known as a slipping clutch.
There are several possibilities..
(1) Your clutch plate could be worn and needs replacing. Not a difficult nor hugely costly repair.
(2) The clutch throwout bearing could be shot. Again, not excessively difficult or hugely costly repair.
(3) Mechanical linkage between the pedal and clutch actuator could be out of adjustment or damaged.
That would be the first thing to look at.
As long as there aren't unusual noises or signs of a damaged tranny, of course.

Forgot to mention one other possibility..
Some of the older Camaros are known to have problems with transmission output shaft breakage.
Doesn't sound like that's your problem, but be aware.
