GM is tweaking a handful of dealers here and there. This is really not news. They will end up with about half as many dealers as previously and about half the market they once had if they are that lucky. Make that half of the half they were already down to a few years ago. GM is a giant. It takes a long time for a giant to starve, but eventually they can.

The majority of dealerships that closed were poor performing and made their customers feel like scum. Customer Service was a non issue. GM will get it right and they will continue to gain market, just as they have after BR.

Correction, GM will RE-gain market share. They aren't technically gaining market share, as they are trying to recover the 10 points they lost in the past 4 years. GM will settle in at 19% market share as we go forward, they dying brands are still dumping shoddy products into the market at cut-rate prices.

Keep in mind that JJFADS is a shill for GM. Either JJ or his family are involved with GM and that's why you see all the pro-GM posts and columns.

JJ is not objective; his bread and butter comes from GM, one way or another.

Incorrect – I used to be a staunch GM fan. I do like GM trucks / SUV’s, but they need to continue to improve their cars before they will have an opportunity to gain me back as a customer.

I’m still sitting on that post when you said they were finished. At any rate I simply disagree. IF they build good product the people like, it will sale. I see probably about a 23% piece of the pie in five years.

OK, you see 23% and I see 19%. GM still has sales outlets for failed brands. When those dealership points close, people will migrate. I know for a fact that the 188K Saturn buyers per year will likely defect to other non-GM brands. That is over 1% market share alone.

Very possible, I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. At any rate I must remind you that it will probably take reporters years to figure out that Toyota’s market peaked in 08. They will never regain those numbers. Regardless, we continue our stance that GM should continue reducing capacity and concede market, they need to be lean and move quality vehicles at profit, not loss. They can do that.
