The war on drugs is a phony scam to give our tax money to well heeled corporations who make helicopters, surveillance equipment, etc etc..

More drugs and more violence in colombia, for example, yet more profits for all those corporations. Look into who would benefit and how much $ cpongress memberes get from them.

Senator Hutchinson is a liar, who added an amendment to the Secure Fence Act, that basically guts it. For her to now say that she cares about americans is a joke. She has sided with illegal alien criminals, over americans, and the general public should know this.

Rather than send dollars to this corrupt narco terrorist government , we should spend it on the National Guard to post them on the border with enough numbers to make a show of it. Or use it to build the fence, the original one that's supposed to be a dual layer. Or, better yet, use it to compensate the local governments that spend taxpayer dollars to educate, incarcinate and tolerate the illegals in their midst. The same money Bush has attempted to cut off so he can spend it on his borrowing intrest.

BUILD THE FENCE AND PUT A DIVISION OF OUR MILITARY MANNING THE BORDER. THIS WILL DO MORE TO SOLVE THE DRUG PROBLEM IN MEXICO, THAN ANYTHING WE COULD DO TO HELP IN MEXICO!!

We should take care of our own problems first, and foremost!!

As harsh as it may sound, if we fully funded our Border Patrol and the border sheriffs, issued orders of "Shoot to Kill" for anyone illegally crossing our borders, this would not only eliminate the drug cartels from entering this country, it would significantly diminish drug addiction in the US, and dramtically reduce the invasion of illegal aliens that we have endured for all too long. Hutchison, Cornyn, and Perry should all be removed from office. Collectively, they have done more to promote Mexico than they have ever done to protect TX or America.

"Texas Lawmakers Debate Initiative to Help Mexican Law Enforcement"

Question: are these "Texas Lawmakers" some of the same people who are so concerned about the damage the fence is doing to the environment, business, etc?

Spend the money on closing off Mexico from the United States, that will help the safety of Americans. Mexican politicians always shoot their big arrogant mouths off everytime they don't get their way with the U.S. on some issue, so let them handle their own problems. Our founding fathers warned us over and over again about foreign entanglements. Americans are sick and tired, judging from all the blogs I read, of their hard earned tax money being wasted around the world while they receive nothing but cr-p from their own politicians. Every modern nation in the world has free medical care, for instance, yet worthless Republicans and Democrats have told Americans that if the U.S. did this, things like the cost of gas would be too high. Are their still some American dumbhead citizens in this nation who can't see the joke, indeed the scam, being perpetrated on them by their so called representatives"?

Right, that'll happen. They need to both properly fund border patrol and put them in the right strategic spots. They are not going to do this with this stupid wall business! As far as the shooting on site protocol, hey, if you want to get that drastic and inhumane, I say why stop there. Shoot anyone who's found to be high on drugs as well, don't bother banning the substances.

Good point Ben. The "joke" is on those Americans from Texas, who still supported Hutchinson. Why do people keep voting for these crooks? I'm sorry if this offends some people, but crooks is the only word I can think of that describes them accurately.

It seems to me that this country went through this during prohibition. What happened...alcohol was legalized after a decade or so. Its time to legalize and tax drugs to remove the profit incentive and illegal activities associated with its growing, manufacture, distribution, etc. Okay, alcohol is a problem but how is it being handled...tough and getting tougher DUI laws (and drugs are included in those laws). Tobacco was once a curse to most of America, legalize drugs, tax the crap out of them and over time use and the consequences from it will decrease. Time to attack the problem from a different angle.

You need to visit the schools / hospitals that care for crack babies before you make dumb remarks about legalizing illegal drugs.

I would like you to tell the relatives of the people who will lose their live next holiday weekend to some moron on alcohol that alcohol abuse is being handled by way of DUI laws.

The drugs are coming from Mexico and they don't stop the people from bring it over, I've seen armed Mexican military (real or fake I can't say for sure but they looked real), bring a large load of black duffle bags - large like hockey gear bags, around 15 of them they looked heavy, the Mexican smugglers were on the US side of the so-called fence off loading to several large US licenced nice new SUV's near Campo, CA one evening. How do you expect our agents being understaffed already to deal with a half dozen armed men running drugs without money for our US Border Patrol? American Border Patrol and security on our side before we send our guys and our money to Mexico to fix this now.

What the hell have you been smoking?

Maybe the cartels are rich, but if that makes Mexico rich that would be like saying residents of a slum are rich because their buildings are owned by a rich family.

Oh, boo hoo...yes you're a god alright...typical blanthering liberal incensed at the stupidity of anybody that doesn't think as they do. What there's no babies that are born of alcoholics? No babies born of HIV and every other malady humans can bring onto themselves? The issue is dealing with the cost of combating drugs, something law enforcement doesn't have to do to the extent that it does with drugs. Underage drinking and driving while intoxicated are the primary issues. Of course whiny, hand wringing, crying and screaming liberals like you who are only concerned about "crack babies" and the relatives of DUI drivers want to throw billions of dollars at a problem that has no solution with the current national strategy.

Go preach your liberal BS to someone who cares what you think.

How much more assistance are we to provide to a country that historically has been overwhelmed by ineptness and almost total corruption?

The US is about 1/2 as guilty as Mexico is about this whole problem. The only efforts done in the US to try to stop the cartels are minimal and pathetic. Everything is concentrated at the border. Once the drugs pass that point, they are free to go anywhere in the US. Stop the demand, and you stop the problem. If not, then put up not 1.4 billion, but half of the money that the Mexicans are putting, 7 billion.
