Interesting comments. I happen to love this service. As far as I know, they took over the Great Expectations in Rocky Hill, CT. I think it's nice that they helped the other members. I think they could improve a few things like events but I know they're working on it and I know they're always there. I hope it works for you.

Steve,

I'v been a member for 6 months now and have had a great time. The Staff has been there for any and all questions, they also helped me redo my profile and since then I have become inactive with another member within the site.

I never comment online about a service, but after seeing some misleading statements on this board, I had to chime in. I am a member at Connections and I've had a GREAT experience. Great dates! I have a female friend on Connections and she loves it too. Professional service by the staff (who cares if the staff photos aren't posted-I'm not dating the staff!)Sounds like the negative posts on here are way off. I'm a real member, not a relative! Email me if you want the real scoop. This place rocks! careysonair@yahoo.com

I disagree with these reviews. Crissy said there are no success stories. I don't know which office she belongs to or if she is a member but the one in Austin has success stories and videos on their site. I know other offices do too. I know that because they are a members-only service, they probably don't let non members see the success story photos and videos. I suppose they could use them for marketing but, as a member myself, I like the confidentiality they give me. This company has an entire staff to work with you. They are all local and available every day. That's what I really like. I feel like they really care and they have a large database of real members with real photos. I give them a big thumbs up.

I can't speak for Austin TX but I can testify from my own experience that Connections Dating here in CT is a total scam and rip off. They use high pressure sales tatics and try and manipulate you into a agreement with them. The say they are Chrisstian based to but I don't think Christ was in the business of misleading and manipulating people for a buck or several thousand. From what I have seen in 6 months, not one single person who was "inactive" has become active again which tells me these people are probably long gone. There is 0 attractive women on there that are active and from what I see this business is preying on older people who have less hope of meeting other people in their world. This a total scam that I so regret signing up for. I haven't met or spoken to one single person yet I meet women out on the town regularly so this is a hoax that needs to be busted wide open. Don't waste your time with them period because they will keep calling you to get you in there and they have all the right answers well rehearsed but it's a scam. I'm sure for some it is a good experience but for what you pay your better off taking your chances on a dating site you can check out before signing over your bank account.

Well Terry you should note then that the Stamford and Hartford database is the same database. That's easy to verify just go on line and check it out for yourself. It's not two separate data bases as they claim so that is misleading because there are not that many members. Most or should I say all of the attractive women between 30 to 45 years old are "inactive" and have been since I signed up 6 months ago. I've only seen one new member sign up since I joined to. It's a total dissappointment and sham. These people need to be in jail. They became Connections because over the last 20 years everyone became aware that Great Expectations was a scam. True it is a legitimate dating site but they are the most deceptive and misleading of all of the dating sites online. There is a lot of people who have been manipulated and basically swindled out of a lot of money by having their lonilenness and hope preyed upon. These people have no ethics and are no better then sociopaths in my opinion.

Total scam. I just joined and it is the biggest waste of monoey I ever spent. They keep you in a room for 2 hours and befriend you and exhaust and brain wash you into thinking they have all these wonderful serious gorgeous men on their site. They won't let you look at pictures prior to joining nor can you bring a friend with you. They won't let you think about it and go home. You are forced to make a decision. And they don't talk price until the very end. I just wasn't in my right mind when I signed the contract. Do join this service - and the database is limited.
I am from Richmond - just stay away,

I agree with jes richmond va. Went in for an interview and how jes describes it pretty much hit the nail on the head. I'm a guy and couldn't help but notice that only attractive females interacted with me. I'm sure it's the same with the women they lure in, being presented with attractive males. I even noticed this in the 2 minute video. Makes you think that there must be attractive people on their site. I'm not sure either way, as it was mentioned they won't let you look at pictures (fair enough, for the sake of their customers' privacy).

Either way, I asked about price multiple times and never got a direct answer. I knew before I saw the pricing that it was going to be high but it was about 3 times higher than I guessed! hahahah! And they can magically shave off 75% of that price if you sign up right away, and also they can magically structure it for you personally (I had complained about the min. 1 year membership so of course they all of a sudden had a "fall promotion" with a 6 month membership).

Seems to me like they prey on exhausting you mentally and making you feel guilty for wasting 2 hours of the rep's time without signing up. I'm sure plenty of people fall for it.

All of this being said, I don't think the service itself sounds bad at all. But the tactics they use to lure you in are pretty blatant and awful. Not to mention I was cold-called, I'm not even sure where they got my phone number.

I totally agree that the service sounded wonderful, so I did join on the first visit. I also appreciated the fact that they tried to work with my budget, I recently had to change careers due to the economy and frankly am having a hard time of it. This gives me something to look forward to, and I really appreciated the fact that they did criminal checks, I have a small daughter at home and that was important to me. So far I love it, all the men I have met have been gentleman. I was interviewed by a woman as well, so I don't think there is some motive to having "good looking women" around. They treated me with respect, gave me the help that I needed, were encouraging, and are just a phone call away, not like the other sites, and the people are also local not in Montana or someplace. Id nothing else is working, why not give it a chance??

I was recently widowed and really didn't know where to start..I went into Connections, and you are right they did push me to become a member on the first visit, but I needed that push, I have no idea how to be single. The one on one counseling is something I enjoy. If I get nervous I can call up and talk to my member representative. If I don't want to date one on one I have the choice of the activities which I find fun! One day at a time, one step at a time, I am glad Connections is in my corner

I don't get it, this is for Drew...you went into the interview wanting a way to find someone right??In you own words you say "the service itself doesn't sound bad" AND they tried to make it easier for you to join, and you didn't?? That's why I joined, I figured any guy who would act on this because something isn't working in their life, must be serious about finding someone, they are willing to act and to commit to finding someone rather than be alone.
Have I met the special someone yet? NO...but I have dated, have opened up my social life, now have options, and I have learned something from everyone I have met. I must say I have met all wonderful people, the men I have dated, the women I have met at the events, and the Connections staff that is always willing to help. I know some of them have been there for years, and I see caring people.
One day the man I meet will be the right one, at least I know he is willing to invest in something to try to find me as well.

I am currently fighting a legal battle with the Austin, TX Connections Dating office. When I signed my contract with them I believed it was a high end dating service for professionals. I was charged $2795.00 for a 1 year membership and it was presented to me as $3795.00 for one year but if I sign now and only now they'll take off $1000 otherwise I'll have to pay the $3795.00. Only later did I find out they play, "lets make a deal" for people who can't afford that fee.

My interviewer Linda also mentioned that she had just moved to Austin from.....CT. She asked me about how lonely I get and also made comments about how I'm lucky because I'm in my mid30s it gets a lot harder to find someone when you're older. She also told me they had over 400 guys in the age range I was looking for. Once I could finally see their whole database I could see this was not true.

The owner of the Austin office Michael Miess used to operate it as Great Expectations. This can be verified through the Texas Secretary of State's office. He was also interviewed by a Nashville, TN journalist Jeremy Finley in 7/08 for a story he was doing on Mr. Miess's Nashville GE franchise for claims of high pressure sales and misrepresentation.

By chance I recognized someone in C/Ds database once I finally had access to it which was only after I had not only signed their contract, paid their fee but also had pictures taken. This sets them up to be able to argue that they incurred costs on your behalf if you complain about their service and they can offer a partial refund and seem "reasonable". Why else not let you even see the database until after photos are taken?

I contacted the person who I recognized in their database and he informed me that his contract with them expired in Jan of this year yet his profile was still listed as "active" in late Aug/ early sept I have a screenshot of it and a copy of his contract to prove it. Yes he was another person who was given a "special" deal on the fee when he told them he couldn't afford it.

Also, C/D issues you your log in and password. It was not identified as a temp password and I couldn't find a way to change it. This means CD can log in anytime as anybody. You can never be sure a "no thanks" response came from who you were trying to contact and not from a CD employee logging into a dead profile. Since they are also the only one who can remove profiles you can not be sure profile is removed or isn't being used inappropriately and listed as an "active" profile when it's not. their system sets up the possibility for this type of user profile abuse.

If you have had a problem with this business be it in TX or CT or anywhere else, report them to the BBB, your state Attorney General and the FTC, if you want to go for good measure the Dept of Just has a fraud division too. Its only if those who are being victimized by C/Ds system speak up about what is happening to them can the authorities do anything about it.

As for their "fun" activities" The one I saw posted for Aug in TX was for dinner at Cheddar's and the two posted in Sept were for a Dave and Buster's outing and a Bunco night. You be the judge if those types of activities are worth the price I was charged.

As someone going through a very painful divorce at the moment - and having just turned 50 - I impulsively filled out an application for "Mature Singles" - and immediately got a call from a young woman (203 area code which made sense since that is the closest office for me). I made an appointment for the following week, she called me twice to confirm. when I got there turns out it was for "connections dating", which I thought was weird since I thought I was going to Mature singles. I asked about that during the "interview" and did not get a straight answer. Also thought it was sketchy that my interviewer told me he could "hook me right up". Long story short, sat through the process, saw videos and the price sheet and had a major case of the ICKS. Of course when I hesitated I suddenly was offered the "promo" deal. I told them I wanted to think about it, and could I get a copy of the price list to take home (of course not). and the woman who called me and made/confirmed all the appointments was no where to be found...another thing I questioned and got a bs answer. I think God sent the "be careful" angel to me and I walked out without committing to anything - although as soon as I said to them I wanted to check them out online because I was not comfortable with the fact that they had essentially misrepresented themselves - I was ushered out very quickly. I think that and the fact I mentioned I had a strong family behind me looking to make sure no one else could hurt me hastened my exit to the door. I went home and started googling this outfit and am so glad I did. Sorry to everyone who lost money with them, there is karma in this world and it will all come around. Preying on people at their most vulnerable is dispicable.

Despite being locked out of their last business space for non-payment of rent, the Austin CD office managed to move just down the road into an even nicer more upscale shopping center. In addition recently the Austin CD's Facebook page has been getting huge jumps in the number of "likes" to their page but you have to see who's suddenly "liking" the page: To do this type in Connections Dating into the search field in Facebook but don't click on the link to the page, click on the see more results part at the bottom and you'll see it listed with the number of people who like the page. You'll see this sudden jump from 14 a couple months ago to 1,358 as of today is due to NON-US based people suddenly liking the page. So why are people outside the US suddenly "liking" the Facebook page of an Austin based dating service for Austinites?

And yes I'm still fighting. The owner of the Austin office claims to have a recording of my interview session which I wish to god was true. It would utterly prove how I was misled. When my lawyer told his lawyer that we'd like a copy of it they suddenly went silent.
