The economics make piping water from Tasmania a no-brainer

T HE Tasmanian Government is considering a brash proposal to pipe a massive 350 gigalitres of fresh water a year to Melbourne in a new venture. If it all adds up, why not? Just somebody to something for the love of crumbcake. This has been passed around politician's 'too hard trays' since the 80s.

Meanwhile, Tasmania's dams are at their lowest for decades and restrictions are in place in some parts.
This is more criminal profiteering at Tasmanian's expense!!
Just 5 years ago Tassie had the cheapest (and greenest) electricity in Australia. The hydro dams were producing excess power.
Then we were told that the state could generate a lot of money by laying a cable across the Bass Strait and selling electricity to the mainland.
Once it was laid, we were then informed that as we were now part of the national grid we'd have to pay the same as everyone else..so prices went up about 60% over a 12 month period!. To add insult to injury, the hyro-electric company were racking in so much cash by selling to the mainland, they decided to create as much power (profit) as possible and have drained the dams...hence our water shortage (on an Island with plenty of rainfall).
Now they want to sell what is left!!

Tasmania!- The state of corruption!

This place is small (about the size of the Republic of Ireland) with a population under 500,000. It is run by a mafia of scum and 1 company: GUNNS.
Anyone interested, please google "Gunns Tasmania".
This place is fantastic, but it is being destroyed by criminals in government who are bought and paid for by Gunns!

I as well have no love for Gunns, you are absolutely correct in your assessment of Tassie. Gunns has destroyed vast tracts of land for pure greed. Some of those forests took thousands of years to fully develop only for Profiteers like Gunns to destroy them within a decade or two. Bloody shame really.

I agree with you both. Gunns suk and tassie is getting ripped off by the pollie crims.
Thanks for the good info Indochine, I had no idea about the power BS.
Your right Rex about old growth Forrest's being dozed for profit. They get less than 10 cents per tonne for wood chips for export, but it you sell enough of it. DEVISTATION. The forrests in Tassie are bloody awsome.
They have to be stopped.

Something kept hush hush by the media is this:
The Gunns family, who pioneered the company to be the greatest company to ever exist in Tasmania were bought out years ago and are now vehemently anti-Gunns.
They never get ANY press (so much for independent media), the only way to know about this is anecdotal.
Even their website got hacked and destroyed!!

The Gunns family are nothing to do with Gunns LTD

Gunns logging truck crashes (almost weekly) never get reported by the media either.
