Seems the Aussies are just as bored as the U.S. lawpersons. Nothing better to do so let's bust a guy with some grass and make ourselves useful.

Are the police supposed to ignore complaints from other hotel guests that are complaining about illegal activities ?

are you for real?
are you suggesting that the law should turn a blind and let these guys do as they please?
don't tell me you can not see the terrible problems and decadence that this has bought to your country and especially your hometown.
no wonder USA is selfdestructing.

The U.S. destruction has nothing to do with cannabis and everything to do with self-serving politicians who are so afraid to lose their job, that they don't do their job.

ok!! so the drug consumption and trade has no effect in the healthy development of the USA and its neighbours?. i may agree that it is partly caused by hypocritical and corrupt politicians but also by population attitudes .

It could have something to do with the laws on cannabis and the amount of people incarcerated because of cannabis. It's ironic that you would single out a couple of Australian coppers doing their job when the whole western world bases their cannabis laws on the USA/Harry Aslinger's vendetta against cannabis last century.

Well I didn't mean to "single them out", it just happened to be the story that was produced. I know that there are many examples of this madness taking place all over not just the country but the world. Not just the western world, but even in the far east where the sentences for possession can be even more draconian.
This was just another example of reefer madness that I'm used to seeing here. The U.S. has made sure to extend their protection of the lobbyists interests to any ally. Australia also has their own examples of Anslingerism (I know, not a real word) with the schizophrenia studies et al.

As far as the population attitudes, I think what we are seeing is just a course correction since so many were led to their opinions of cannabis by well published inaccuracies and propaganda. The "education" received by the kids here was nothing more than scare tactics rather than real education. When the kids try cannabis and see that the scare tactics were untrue, they naturally assume that all drug info they were taught was a lie as well and, therefore, made them feel easier about trying the harder stuff.

Regardless of anyone's view on marijuana prohibition it was fairly stupid to be smoking pot in a hotel where smoking cigarettes is most probably banned - the cops had no choice. Not 100 % sure which schitzophrenia studies you are talking about - but I am aware of some studies that says pot can exacerbate symptoms of schizophrenia and that pot smoking may bring underlying mental conditions on - I haven't heard of any Australian scientist proposing that marijuana causes shizophrenia.

You know what, you're right. It was pretty stupid to be smoking in a hotel.
You actually know what the studies really said, however those studies have been spun to make it sound like cannabis causes schizophrenia from news reports and the prohibitionists on some of these threads. That was the "Australian "reefer madness" that I was referring to.
