Hi. There are 4 main operators: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Three. You'll no doubt know several of these global brands already.

Personally, I am pleased after my switch to Three. Their cap plans allow for international calls, and they have quite generous call rates when using global roaming to other countries with Three networks.

Some people say Telstra is better if you plan to spend a lot of time out of the main cities.

Optus and Vodafone are ok too, but I like the features and bundles that Three offer. Also they can send their bills by PDF. Not sure if the others can do this yet.

Which of the four operators has best coverage in Melbourne: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone or Three.

Apparently there is no area code in Australia and all cell phone calls are local calls inside the country so one can buy it in Syndey and life in Melbourne. Is this correct?

I am having difficulties trying to connect to a cell number in australia. Is there a way I can find out what carrier this cell number has so that I can contact them.

"I am having difficulties trying to connect to a cell number in australia. Is there a way I can find out what carrier this cell number has so that I can contact them. "

The 4 digit prefix used to indicate which carrier it was but as you can change carriers and keep the same number it may not still be the same if that user has switched.

"Which of the four operators has best coverage in Melbourne: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone or Three. "

In cities, there is no clear best coverage as they all cover them well, although there can be odd buildings with problems. It's generally okay with any although if you can, it can be useful to try first at your specific address.

"Apparently there is no area code in Australia and all cell phone calls are local calls inside the country so one can buy it in Syndey and life in Melbourne. Is this correct? "

Not quite. A mobile call is billed the same throughout the country, but there are area codes across the country for fixed telephones. You can certainly buy a mobile telephone in Sydney and use it anywhere else in the country.

from what I've read, Optus and Vodafone have the exclusive rights to distribute iPhone in Australia.
Not sure if the new Apple store will carry the iPhones though.

The best guys to contact for incoming students are talkdownunder.com They specialise in providing phones and SIM cards for travellers and I love their call home feature. Just my thoughts!

i have just had a big fallout with vodafone because they wont let me have two phones paying from the same credit card. beats me as to whats wrong, but because oof all the indians i can't understand whats the problem anyway... don't make the biggest mistake in mobile operators, becasue vodafone have the worst deals and their customer care is terrible. also, i wouldn't buy a samsung unless my life depended on it, because they can be complicated phones to use, take a long time to turn on, and have useless buttons in awkward spots that oyu accidently press. go with nokia.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Cancer

Today's Full Moon will have a powerful impact on your health during the next few months. Maybe this is the spur you need to inspire you to take better care of yourself, such as improving your diet, getting more exercise or finally consulting the doctor about something that's worrying you. It will also be the end of a chapter connected with your work, but don't fret because this ending will lead on to a new beginning.
