I'm living in Eugene Oregon noticed a mention of Fred Harsant (saddlery)in Rockhampton Newspaper (re Kate O'Tooole) dated 2005. Can anyone help me find if he is still in the Queensland area?

Info wanted from one of his former saddle making students.
Thanks

Hi Daniel,
Would you, if you can, tell your grandfather that Dave Schubert (too tall to talk to, with elongated appendages) says hello. I had the great pleasure of making 2 saddles with him about 13 years ago when he was living in Rifle. He remains one of the finest people I have known. I think of him all the time. I wish him the best, and would welcome any communication. Thanks, Dave.

Hi,
I've got an old Fred Harsant saddle and I'm trying to track down a bit of information on it. It also needs a bit of work doing on it and I am trying to get a contact here in NZ to take it to. I would appreciate any help you could give me on this. Thanks, Lisa

No, it is not total BS, it is the honest truth, and I have the receipts and correspondance to prove it. Why would I make up something like this? The answer is I did not. I am not saying I know the reasons why I never received the saddle I paid for, I asked in letters to Fred but never received any answers. What I am I supposed to think? I AM saying I paid for it and never received the saddle. I have the proof in the receipts, that I kept all this time. The truth is not always pleasant, but the truth is always the best way, whether we like it or not. You can choose to believe it or not, and I am sure my receipts mean nothing to you. I paid my hard earned money, in advance, for a saddle I never received. That is the God's truth, whether you like it or not! I will look you in the eye and say it to your face, any time! Let me say it again...I paid for a saddle I never received! Here in Texas we do not take kindly to paying for something and never getting it!

There is an easy way to resolve this. If Fred is still alive have him contact me. If not, then I will never get any answers, in this life, as to why I paid for a saddle I never received. If you are an honest man, then you will want to know the truth, regardless of where it leads. The truth is many times not what we would wish to hear, or want to hear, but it is always the best policy. You were correct in your other post...It is B.S., and I am the one on the receiving end of the B.S., and have been all these years. As I said if Fred is alive, and if so hopefully in good health, then have him contact me. My business is with him, and probably only he can explain why I never received the saddle.

I paid for this saddle with three bank cashiers checks, in 1986 when they were living in Arizona. I had to pay for it in three checks because at the time I could not afford one large payment. I paid for it in three installments. I ordered a Texas A Fork Sam Stagg rigged, saddle. It was "Saddle B" in the catalog he sent, that I still have. He also sent me some color photographs of his different styles of saddles. I am not "bad mouthing him", I am merely wondering why I corresponded with him, sent in my money, and never got the saddle or my money back. How is that "bad mouthing" anyone? I am merely seeking answers and the truth. I am not disputing his honesty, perhaps there was a reason why this happened. The point is, I do not know, and have always wondered why. I liked Fred, and we corresponded, and I even sent him a Collin Street bakery cake, in a round metal box, for Christmas one year. You want my contact details, such as my present address? All right, it is: 5080 April Lane, Waxahachie, Texas 75165. I have all our correspondance, and carbon copie,s of the three bank cashiers checks, for all the good it does me. I did keep everything. I am not surprised he is back in Australia, since he was from there orginally. He and Joan were living in Arizona when we first started all this. Cottonwood Arizona, and later Cornville, and finally Bonanza, Oregon was the last address I had. I do not know what else to add to this, other than I have no reason to make all this up. I already have accepted the fact that I will get neither the saddle or my money back. I am now just down to wanting to know why and what happened. If someone is in business, then why do this to your customer, that paid in advance? I have no idea, hence my continued quest to find out.
