Extradition order for the surgeon dubbed 'Dr Death'

An incompent American surgeon nicknamed "Doctor Death" by medical staff at the Queensland hospital where he worked for two years is heading back to face charges. He basically flunked out of America and becomes Head of Surgery in Australia. 17 deaths later he toddles off home. Unbelievable.

Goddam!! Really?

I can remember an interviewer calling refrences and asking for a police check - to stack bloody cans in Coles. Then how is it someone who gets to cut people open can lie on his CV and no-one checks a thing?
There's more people responsible than just this doc.

The morons thought since the Doctor was American and lived in the US, they did not have to do a background check. I have heard of ridiculously bad British physicians doing the same thing that this Doctor did and the media does not say a thing.

There used to be a joke in New York, "What's a Hebrew word beginning with the letter A which means 'Heavenly Prince'?" The answer: adoctor.

Not any longer.

I used to work with a unit investigating medical fraud. Seems we had an Asian doctor who never knew what he was doing but was on the staff at Mass. General Hosp.

Turns out his name was the same but his fingerprints were different. Our guy had no medical degree.

He performed medical examinations for a large NYS agency. When it was discovered that he was a fraud he was booted, not jailed, and people who lost insurance benefits because of his exams were never told.

The most cursory background check would have caught this.

Seems like the Australian educational system produces 'gum chewing' majors rather than skilled professionals (enggs, docs etc) - hence the need to fast track incompetent rejects from the US to the top of the hierarchy.

No... It's more to do with Australian students - after slogging through med school - not wanting to live in regional towns in the outback. The money and the lifestyle is in the cities.

Most migrant professionals are compelled to live in the bush for a few years before since that is where the shortage occurs.
