Police have to remember who pays their salary and it isn't the pricks in the government buildings....these protesters were asked to move on and didn't (they weren't being either violent or aggressive) so when the cops decided to move against them why did they do so with more physical aggression than was needed...appreciated they needed to do their job but cops seem to be coming more and more aggressive towards those who even comply with their orders....so I ask ,are we not giving these cops enough training dealing with people they think it's alright to hit a peacful man with a baton or push and shove him or her....are cops becoming inhumane toward those he is supposed to serve and are the powers they are being granted(by governments so easily) that are reducing the rights of citizens to complain about heavy handed police tactics and leading police and our governments to believe they themselves are above the law?
I noticed a big difference in tone between the Occupy Melbourne and Sydney protests compared to what is going on in the US. Many of the people protesting in Australia actually have jobs or some kind of support system, in America a large number of the protestors are people without jobs or people in debt, mostly recent college graduates who are struggling with finding work.

An Iraq War Veteran who chose to exercise his constitutional right to assembly wound up getting beaten up by police in the US. Another Iraq War Veteran who was simply trying to walk home from work and found out the way home was along a route where protests were occurring got his head beat in by the police and got charged with resisting arrest.

Anyway these "protestors" in Melbourne should realize they are feeding the beast that they are supposedly "opposing".
