Sharks and Crocs, these animals are hungry.

I never heard of an Ausralian 'swamp' before, I think we call them 'marshes'?

Men call them swamps, gays call them marshes.

I pray for the family. What a terrible loss and a horrendous way to go. There is no solace for the family, but I must say this is a risk Australians face for living in a rugged and beautiful country. This American admires Australia and her people.

It's nice to see that some people have the decency to stay on topic and post their respects to the family.
The rest of you forget that you can't believe every piece of BS you read in the news. Most of the reporting on this story is grossly inaccurate.

Crocks are extremely fast and can out run you. They average about 15 feet. They are even faster in water. God bless that poor child.

Crocks will lay close to the shoreline ... and can spring out of the water with surprising quickness. The girl could have just been walking too close to the water's edge.

Crocodiles have become plentiful in Australia's tropical north since they became protected by federal law in 1971.

Crocks kill hundreds perhaps thousands of people around the globe each year, and can grow well over 20 feet. Why on earth the enviornmentalists insist on protecting them is beyond me.

Didn't read the article...not posted. Anyway, I didn't realize aussies and yanks have problems with each other, I just don't get this aussie bashing. I met some in Vietnam and they seemed nice eough to me. As for the 12-year-old...my condolences. Crocs will be crocs. When I first saw the headline, I thought they were referring to an American croc, which would be very rare.

Good. Now stop coming up with stupid analogies and debate the issues at hand and we'll get along famously.
Now, what is so intelligent about a 12 y/o, either by herself or perhaps with her parents permission, going for a swim in known, croc infested waters?
It was in her Back and its not croc infested, there had been heavy rain and the water was up, she was unlucky not dumb
