When I caught Blight the other night apologizing on TV for not spending I thought exactly the same thing, about gaining interest on a deposit. They have done it before if I remember rightly.
One bloke from Tully said 2 nights ago that he received $400 of the $2,500 promised him and his family, and has had to close his business, and is living in a damaged house. He's not getting any other assistance as yet and doesn't even have any money to buy food let alone anything else. And that's only 'one' story.
I tried to advise people to NOT donate to the Gov fund (I got abused for that) but to give instead to local charities or Lions or Rotary - that's where the 'real' help is coming from and the quickest too.
