I was recently introduced to a company called "Slater Byrne Recoveries Pty Ltd" through one of my clients. Having never used a debt collection company before, I was surprised that they would even be bothered trying to recover debts under $1000. So far so good, they havn't collected all the debt, however have performed better than expected. If you need a debt collector ask for a Peter Levis, he was very realistic in his approach.

be warned Rocklea Accountant, they start off helpful but wait for when they push legal action onto you. like all collection agencies they claim costs are recoverable but all they care about is getting the actual debt amount paid so they can get thier commission. This leaves you exposed your legal costs as well as their commission, all collection agencies are as bad as each other and should not be trusted.

Slater Byrne talks the talk but does not deliver. After spending thousands for court filings for various clients per their recommendation, the return on investment was "zero".... I have sent them others to collect on and the same ...very little back. Stewart Wilkenson solilicted to get the business but NEVER would take my calls after the fact. STAY AWAY from them....

I have used several collection companies as a Credit Controller in the last 15 years. The only reason why I am here is because I reffered a ex colleague to Slater Byrne Recoveries. They in turn googled them and have theb read this blog.
These blogs only hurt business, as I found Slater Byrne Recoveries are one of the best debt collection agencies I have used.
Debt collection is a hit and miss thing, you need a company that wont charge legal fees that will not pay off.
Keep up the honest work and ignore this stuff.

This firm does not perform as the state. They will collect what they need for themselves and then drag their feet until they close the account because it isn't worth their time. I'm sure they may have an area in the market where they can collect but forget the small stuff (under $2,000) because they're not up to the challenge. You'll find this the case with most collection agency but this on takes 1st prize.

Slater and Byrne / SLATER&BYRNE (Slash&burn) are total cowboys. They came at us for a fake debt that we never incurred with all guns a blazing. We contacted them straight away requesting some information, which by anyone's reasonable expectation would put the case on hold, but oh no, we received a further excessive barrage of harassing letters and emails, including letters stating that "dates had been fixed to lodge" . When inquiries were made regarding this barrage of threatening letters, and why we were being harassed when we were in constant communication, we received unprofessional, sarcastic and unhelpful replies, when we requested info to lodge a complaint, we received nothing in reply. So much for complaints procedure. The shoot first ask questions later mentality is so 90's. Perhaps they missed the email informing them of CONSUMER RIGHTS. Where a little consideration and a professional explanation would have sufficed, they have now inspired me to take the matter further.

I can see from this and other forums that customers and clients alike recommend steering away from out dated cowboy operators such as SLATER&BYRNE and going with a more modern and professional company.

Imagine waking up everyday to find that you are a debt collector!!

SLATER&BYRNE = will harass your customers till they end up with the ombudsman or consumer affairs to complain, which in turn will ruin your companies reputation. I would find someone who offers a more professional and accountable service.

Not Slater & Byrne

Robert debt collectors quite often get abused by both clients and debtors. Communication is always the key resolving matters. If for some reason, you were not the intended party to the collection matter, effective communication should have the matter resolved fairly quickly. I endorse SBR I know they are an ethical organisation. I'm sorry to hear of your experience, but maybe you should talk with them privately instead of posting in a public forum where they may not wish to defend themselves.
