You want better dental care for your kids? Get a job and work for it you losers.
I'm sorry, but Tex is right - if half these parents gave a rat's a$$, they'd get off their butts and quit letting the state take care of their kids. Go get a good paying job and get the benefits. It's not that damn hard to put two and two together. Get off your butt and start taking care of something you created and quit making the taxpayers pay for it!!!

It isn't ANY of the kids faults if they are on medicaid or peachcare, so shove it to those putting people down who happen to be on one of the 2. They deserve care no matter if they have lazy parents or parents who are the working poor. It is attitudes like that as to why this country is in complete shambles.
Ins. keeps going up and up and up(due to uninsured ILLEGALS mainly), and your average working person can not afford it. Also with peachcare it is ONLY for minors, NOT adults.
I work, my son is on peachcare, my ex husband was court ordered to carry ins. on our son and hasn't and he doesn't pay any child support. I pay a fee each month for peachcare and a small deductible for any meds. MY taxes are going into it as well, so don't hand me this crap about parents being lazy who get on it. Believe me I do not like having him on it, because the better Dr's do not accept it. RIght now I have no choice. If my ex who makes damn good money would do what he was ordered to do we'd be good to go. It won't cost him an extra dime to add our son being that he already carries family coverage. He is just doing it out of spite and because his new wife is a nutcase.
I do the best that I can do under the circumstances. I pay all of the bills, pay for all of the christmas gifts, all school clothes, school lunches, groceries and I keep a roof over his head. Right now I simply can not afford this crappy ins. they offer us at work. It will take too much out of my pay, and I can not afford it.
Don't always assume that because someone is on peachcare that they are a non working lazy bum. Peachcare is for those who DO WORK yet can't afford these ridiculous rates ins. companies are charging now.
Oh socialized healthcare will never work. People die in Canada waiting for simple tests like MRI's and CT scans or even angioplasty. The waiting list for those tests or procedures is anywhere from 120 days up to 9 months.
I've done my research on it already, and would never vote for anyone who is for it.

Hey Cobb Resident, I provide healthcare for my family. But there are some who cannot. Look at the cost of drugs in Canada as compared to the US. Look at doctors taking pay offs from insurance companies to change their patients to a generic drug. I am sorry that you disagree with me but that is your right, but I still think socialized medicine is the way to go.
doctors don't get payoffs form insurance companies to change their patients to generic drugs. you have a lot of learning to do. please don't vote for anybody advocating socialized medicine until you do some studying!

To Dville, your a great american. If I can make any suggestion to you because I was in your position 7 years ago. Go back to school. No matter the cost, even if you take our loans, go back to school. Sorry for drifting off topic.
I dont blame the poor for their problems. Stuff happens but you cant punish the children for the parents that fate gave them. Call the parents all the names you want but it doesnt change the fact that these children need dental care and the only reason they are losing it is greed and the desire for more money. Its appalling. Government shouldnt be the provider or saving grace, thats obvious. Parents shouldnt have children they cant afford and I should not have to pay for them BUT, until there is a system in place to better these parents like training, tuition reimbursment or job advancement requirements, something has to be done. Your punishing children that are innocent and have no control over what their parents do.
Its not about mony or profit, or the government, or socialized medicine. Its about the children. Stuff like improving the parents to get better jobs and reducing the amount of poor is something that should be taken care of, but lets make sure the children have proper dental care before we do that. My poliical beliefs are conservative and libertarian but I am also a human being with a heart. I can't in good conscious punish innocent children for the sins of their parents regardless of my opinions of government involvement. If the money is there, the ability for providing care is there, what are we arguing about this for, get these kids healthcare and lets worry about the parents later. Is that so hard to understand?

reggie,

a doctor does not get any money for prescribing a certain drug. no where, no way.

they may be influenced by the same advertising you see on tv for prescrbing a certain drug.

there are strict laws to prohibit doctors from getting "payoffs"

I feel awful about the CMOs dropping Kool Smiles. My daughter attends the office in Smyrna and they are so good at what they do. I guess there are no suprises when it comes to health care in Georgia.

I believe your news station may want to look into this matter on a deeper level. I resigned my employment with Kool Smiles due to the type of care the children were receiving and the way in which the corporate leaders were managing/reporting the billing of such dental care to Peachtree/Medicaid.
Several months ago Medicaid entered many of the Kool Smiles offices, unannouced, and seized dental records - including x-rays. It is clear now what the audit revealed. The children's dental needs are the most important issue here and by Peachtree/Medicaid pulling their contract the results of the care the children were truly receiving had to have been clear in the records/x-rays.

My wife worked at Kool Smiles. She put her heart, soul and trust into this company. I am happy to see the managed care providers discovered what Kool Smiles' real concerns were and are...$$$- not the children or their employees.
This is NOT to say the doctors or staff were not giving good care to the children.
I am sadden for the children.

I know these guys at Kool Smiles. Make no mistake about it, Kool Smiles is a for-profit organization just like the insurance companies. Don't be fooled by their "it's all about caring for the kids" B.S. Insurance companies are smart. They look at who is providing care, what services they are performing, the number of services per patient, and that sort of mumbo jumbo. Dental groups like this one target disadvantaged medicaid kids and get themselves into trouble because they bill excessively, often for services they do not perform or that are not necessary. Often the kids will get better care going to someone that is not using them as a vehicle to make more profits.

These are not lies dude. You need to listen to and read the news. Insurance companies do indeed give doctors monetary incentives to change thier patients medications to the cheaper generic drugs rather than the name brand. One instance is lipator, doctors are given monetary incentives to change their patients to the cheaper generic version of zocor.

Concerned GA Citizen... Yep is correct doctors do in deed receive "incentives" for prescribing more or one drug than the other. It does not happen as much in dentistry, as much as it does in the medical area.
Again, the focus needs to be on the company that is receiving all the governmental dollars and grants to build such offices, to then "over" treat and bill for services that are un-necessary.

You folks do not have a clue.. I am very familer with the corp ops of Kool Smiles. They operate a medicaid mill. Those poor kids have multiple dental procedures performed at one visit. How may adults out ther get a extraction, root canal and crown work done at one sitting. For Dr Strange to say these 71,000 kids would be without a dental home is a joke. There is no continuity of care in this operation the kids do not even see the same dentist on follow-up visits. The dentists practicing at these locations are not even board certified pediatric dentists.
Its no wonder they only serve govt funded patients... private insured patients would not tolorate the substandard practices this operation conducts
Thank God those two managed care providers through clinical audits recognized what these profit maximizers were doing !

I used to bring my child to Kool Smiles but did not like the care and treatment we received. So I left them and went to Small Smiles. They are the #1 dental providers in the U.S. for children who are on medicaid. I am from Macon and conviently found a Small Smiles they were more than willing to accept new patients. Since then we had one emergency and they were able to see my child right away. For everyone out there that thinks there is not another childrens dentist who take medicaid look up Small Smiles. They are great!

Sorry Former patient. They also cancelled their contracts in GA with Small Smiles as well so kids will not be able to go to small smiles either.
So now give me another excuse please. They drop the two largest providers of medicaid dental care to children in GA. Do both Small Smiles and Kool Smiles provide substandard care? Do the math.

The insurance companies are trying to make money and NO these kids will not go anywhere else because there is nowhere else to go.
So to set the record straight Small smiles and Kool smiles are losing their contracts.

In case your wondering. Kool smiles is the only one raising the alarm about it. Small Smiles doesn't care because they have so many offices in other states losing GA wont effect them.

KS cares so thats why they are raising the roof trying to stop it.

I don't know why the CMO's decided to drop Kool Smiles, but I used to work there and there were some things that were not right there. Several good doctor's have left there as well because of concerns that may have possible led Kool Smiles into some legal issues. I personally would not dare take my children there. Again I used to work there so I know. I do sympathize however, with the many children that will lose their provider. I know of several who still do accept medicaid but that will increase their patient load. I work for a company now that provides dental care to medicaid/peachcare recipients but only with special needs (severe cases). I do know that there is a need for more dentists to accept medicaid to ensure that these kids receive the proper and high quality dental care needed. I don't wish bad on any one and it's sad to see this happen to them. It used to be privately owned and it was real nice then. I know the owner's personally and it's sad to see them go through this.
