It's just how it was described to me - The narrow streets, dirt roads and all. It was like a whole different world... I saw a lot of people going in and out of boarded up homes but nothing 'shocking'.
So many of those houses sit on HUGE lots. It's really upsetting to me because being in real estate that area has a TON of potential.
I spoke with locals and met some very nice people who felt the same way. I stopped at one home that is for sale. I swear the lot was atleast an acre. The front was wooded and the house was farther back with a long driveway.
Amazing how this area ia so abandoned... Or seems to be. Seeing rows and rows of boarded up homes then one house on the block that is occupied.
I've never ever seen a neighborhood like that in my life. I'm going back this weekend to take pictures and see about that house for sale...
It didn't seem 'dangerous' at all. Maybe because I'm black but for the most part - people I spoke to really still care about the area and still have hope for it.

The Bluff is a district within the area that is infamous throughout metro Atlanta for the availability of drugs, heroin in particular.

The borders of The Bluff are defined differently by different sources. For example the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Creative Loafing both defined The Bluff as including all of English Avenue and Vine City. However, a more recent and in-depth December 2011 series of reports by 11 Alive TV news, referred to The Bluff as a "section of English Avenue". The English Avenue/Vine City area has some of the highest poverty and crime rates in the city, with the Carter St. area surrounding the Vine City MARTA station ranking in 2011 as the #1 most dangerous neighborhood in Atlanta and #5 in the United States.

I live in Vinecity, literally off vine St. I believe that these rankings and statistics on this area of Atlanta are flawed. Vine City encompasses rich values passed on by elders of the community, also great pride in the community. What needs to happen is...we need help getting the abandoned homes renovated and used for something productive like housing homeless families.

May I suggest you offer a free Glock 21 and an attack trained German Shepherd as an incentive to purchase to every customer when you start trying to selling homes you build in this area.

It would be a total waste of good money trying to put "homeless" people in a slum neighborhood. In a matter of days, the house would be trashed, and then before the month was up, the house would look as before. The Section 8 program is a failure trying to rehabilitate two and three generations of deadbeats. You can take people out of the ghetto, but you can't the ghetto out of the people.
