That might be tough to do, that might require tax payer money and Republicans might have a hard time voting for that. But I see your point. Abrams will not tear it down. Easter Sunday celebration will still be going up there for years.

Racist whites are the biggest hypocrites walking telling people to get over slavery while waving the confederate flag around. Get over the civil war, you fools, you lost.

Georgia is only 32% black while the white majority pays the state's bills, including for welfare, Medicaid, public housing and other programs you people use to extensively. Surely whites should also have some rights.

White folks use public assistance too. Black folk pay the bills as well. White folks control the state government in Georgia and have since its inception. Black folk have been discriminated against, misused and abused for centuries and until the mid 1950’s- 60’s that abhorrent behavior was, by law, state sanctioned. To latch oneself and ones identity to some outdated, thinly vailed symbol of that abuse reveals a distinct lack of historical understanding and empathy. Asking for ‘white rights’ in the face the historical record is almost comical...almost.
When exactly, might I ask, was the date that the residual effects of state sanctioned racism suddenly ceased to exist?

You assume that the poster Hmmm is Black. Why is that?
You might, wrongly, assume the same of me. I am a white Georgian born and raised. Thankfully the attitude that you display is becoming less and less common.

Stacy Abrams may very well advocate for the removal of the Stone Mountain carving. She couldn’t by herself affect that move. I for one would loose no sleep if it were removed. History simply doesn’t reside in monuments alone. The historical record is available in many many other places.
Monuments like the one at Stone Mountain have become like places of worship for a increasingly small number of folks. Here’s an idea:
Leave the monument on the side of Stone Mountain and erect an equally large statue of an African American slave in chains and in rags with bull whip scars over her back begging for the return of her children. Have her urinating down the side of the mountain onto the treasonous trio below.

In recent years, 45% of the lowest earners did not pay any income taxes so it's safe to assume that would include most African Americans.

Yes, African Americans suffered for a long time but their gaining full rights should not mean the loss of right for whites. Very few of those who caused African Americans' suffering are still alive today.

I do appreciate your intelligent and moderate comments, though. Erecting monuments to slaves is one idea that could solve our problem of what to do with confederate statues, certainly better than removing them and leaving empty pedestals.

Just a couple of things.
Which rights are whites in danger of losing?

My use of the terms 'residual' and 'state sanctioned' was deliberate and critical to a more complete understanding of what's at issue.

White Southerners fought in the Civil War and their descendants have no say in whether we keep or destroy monuments to their ancestors, they have lost the right to have a say in that. I know counties in North Carolina that opposed secession but when Lincoln mobilized to invade the South, they joined the Confederate army, not to defend slavery, very few Southerners owned slaves, but to defend their state.

I’m not going to get into rehashing the particulars of the Civil war. Surely you’re aware of the history of Stone Mountain. All Georgians have a say. We vote for our representatives and put our trust in them for good or bad. Sometimes they vote to our liking and sometimes they don’t. We learn to live with it or we protest against it. That’s how it was with the state flag and how it will be with confederate monuments. You’re having a say right now as well.
