Absolutely correct. Public education should provide children with the basics. Mathematics, Grammar, Science, History, etc.. Yet we see constant shifting of responsibility for every imaginable duty down to the schools from government bodies and up to the schools from lazy, responsibility evading parents. You shouldn’t be producing children if you’re not prepared to take care of at least part of the job of raising them to be responsible, productive, educated citizens.

Do the homework yourself, I do not have time to write books. If you want to know the truth, get the truth,or else stop debating with air alone.
Also: you may want to read about the farming monopoly that is going on in the USA, and you will soon realize that your food comes from very few places and it ain't , Grandpa's farm.
Our food is pumped so full of chemicals that trying to recognize the product is becoming a chore.
One side of my family is made up basically of farmers. Did you know that there are government funds available to people who grow crops with 'enhanced' seed that are not available for those who don't?

That just blew my mind. One of my cousins said he'd never apply for another subsidy if he lost everything he owns as he is not going to grow food that has seed that has been biologically changed. He's a heritage farmer, and those are rare.

I also think the chemicals in foods are part of the rise in cancers of certain types, but I have no proof of that. With the cancer that has been in my family alone, we have gone back to growing gardens with heritage seed and buying beef from grass fed only farms. One son raises chickens, ducks, goats etc and feeds them feed that is free of hormones and other chemicals. I hope at some point we can get to the point where we don't have to buy a lot of food from markets.

If the economy doesn't get better, everyone is going to have to go to sustainable living.

But just the same, I still think children are allowed to eat things I was not allowed to eat and my children were not allowed to eat. Also, my generation and my children's generation went outside to play. We weren't allowed to sit and watch tv all afternoon and evening. Thank goodness my children are raising their kids the same way.'Go outside and play' isn't an option.

I'd also like to add:
Look at the parents of obese children.

If your family tends to be obese, then you should take extra care to buy foods that are free of hormones and limit what your child eats. Teach them early.

And I'm still of the opinion that an obese child winning beauty contests is no better than a skinny child who sticks her finger down her throat to throw up every time she eats so she can fit into a 'beauty' category. Normal size has changed, and I realize that. But in this country we seem to go from one extreme to another.

Every child deserves a fair shot in life. But the child has to be taught that their 'fair shot' is partly their own responsibility to meet certain standards, whether in grades, business trade or eating habits.

Your grandkids (you brought them up) probably live on fried possum. You likely make them sit by the highway all night until one gets run down.

you know I may be a hillbilly to you, which is neither here nor there to me. But I certainly know how and when to speak. You on the other hand have no couth at all. You open that thing you call a mouth and stupidity just rolls out. Your so called policing of these threads are just a farce I would say you are a very miserable and lonely being and it is no wonder.

You socialist, what children eat is the responsibility of their parents not the government. You must hang around worthless trashy parents who don't love their kids if they feed them the trash you mentioned. Bless your little liberal heart.

The new school lunches meet the national nutritional standards for children of all ages. Schools need to add a program in their health/physical ed classes about obesity and overeating.
As far as letting children starve...how cruel is that? That's more than 'right wing'. That is such an elitist remark that it can be right up there with some of the recent remarks we've heard from politicians who are so out of touch with normal American citizens.
Obesity has become a huge problem in this country. Allowing children to 'starve to death' is not the answer. I cannot imagine ever thinking that God would approve and hopefully, most American citizens don't approve of that type of total disconnect and inhumanity.
but why
