The House Republican leadership's decision to let the current Congress wrap up without holding a vote on billions in aid for victims of Hurricane Sandy was met with a storm of angry reactions from lawmakers in both parties.

"We cannot leave here doing nothing," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who took to the floor of the House Wednesday night urging that a vote be held. "That would be a disgrace."

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said the choice to abandon the vote was "absolutely inexcusable, absolutely indefensible. We cannot just walk away from our responsibilities."

The debate over Sandy relief in Congress has been contentious with some lawmakers opposing the bill because they felt there was too much funding that was not for emergency needs. The Senate approved a $60.4 billion recovery package Friday. The House was expected to vote on a $27 billion Appropriations Committee relief measure along with an amendment seeking an additional $33 billion, the Associated Press reported.

With the House punting the bill, victims of Hurricane Sandy that devastated parts of the Northeast in October will have to wait for aid until the next Congress is sworn in Thursday and works out the issue all over again. But House Speaker John Boehner is "committed to getting this bill passed this month" his spokesman Michael Steel said.

Tell your children this is how it all went down in 2013.

The Democrats steered America into the path of the Fiscal Cliff.

Fortunately it was the Republicans who at the last moment took a rainbow, strenghened it with the Spirit Of Christmas, and build a Fiscal Bidge.

Humanity is saved!

NY Republicans took the House of Representatives to task this morning for essentially stopping action on the Senate's $60.4 billion Hurricane Sandy relief bill. Now, NJ Gov. Chris Christie has stepped into the fray, and he has a few choice words for Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and the GOP House majority.

"Shame on you, shame on Congress," Christie said this morning. Christie and NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) issued a joint statement, calling the stalled vote "inexcusable" and adding Congress is "so consumed with their own internal politics, that they forgot that they have a job to do."

Christie's harsh comments sent pundits, who expect him to run for president in 2016, into a firestorm:

When did it become the responsibility of the taxpayers of America to pay for someones home demolished by nature because the occupant of that home was so fiscally irresponsible not to even have insurance to cover a perspective problem which might arise? If you are concerned send them some of your money. It's your right so go on and exercise it rather than try and make others do it. Bless your little heart.

Don't you have any ideas of your own without pasting everyone's other than your own in.
The Recovery Package Bill is a bad bill as it is loaded with pork that has absolutely nothing to do with Sandy. 60 billion dollars is ridiculous. We don't have that kind of money just to waste. Cut it to 25 billion, cut out the pork, and we can talk.
It should also only help rebuild public roads, buildings and facilities, etc. and not rebuild personal private property. That is why we have homeowners insurance.
If you would like to send a large personal donation to help rebuild someones home than please feel free to do so.

Yea! Obama and the Democrats saved America!

Instead of being bankrupt, divided, and "over the cliff" we'll simply be bankrupt and divided.
