Actually, that's not a bad place for a Muvico. It's a shame the mall fluttered, but it was a little ahead of it's time I fear. The money wanted to go to the Galleria on Sunrise instead. But I could see a theater and a few restaurants (hopefully Bonefish will come back?) doing quite will there.

Although the Fashion Mall location and Muvico's Lexus Premier theatre in Boca Raton are equidistant for me, I would be interested in seeing movies at that location with friends who live in the area. The Boca location does very well (with the valet parking, Bogart's restaurant and grill (upstairs), etc.), and attracts an adult crowd (no juveniles allowed upstairs). Unfortunately, as with any movie theatre, it will attract the teenagers (mentioned by Mike above), usually dropped off by the parents who expect the theatre to babysit their 'darling' child(ren) while they are absent.
As long as Plantation can keep a lid on the juvenile activity at that location, it should prove to be a very good decision for the city. |

In fact that is a nice location. Saves me from having to go out west to the Davie Muvico and the one in Pompano is a dump. So very good use of that space.

Movies? Who can afford to go to the movies?

Wait until it comes out on pay for view.
Cheaper, no talking, no cell phones no punks. Movie theaters? Soon to go the way of the dinosaur. |

The Fashion Mall, Broward's invisible mall.

actually...the mall in Boca isn't full of teens all the time. It costs a bit more...so it tends to keep the riff raff out. The one in Boca is the nicest one I've ever been to and worth the extra dollar or 2.
We need one in East Ft. Lauderdale....near the Galleria. www.ftltoday.com |

Gee I'm going to junk my 65" JVC as soon as the new Muvico opens, together with my Netflicks subscription.
I'd much rather drive 5 miles struggle to find a safe parking spot, walk into the movies in a pouring rainstorm, sit in the previous viewers sweat soaked seat with my feet on the sticky floor, listening to the 6' 5" person who sat in front of me in an otherwise empty theatre, eat his crunchy popcorn and talk on his cel. Are you all mad ? Movies: last century technology. |

Oh I forgot, pay $ 12-25 each for the privilege.
That works, not ! |

What is the city going to do about the increase in traffic. With two high rise condos and the movie along with new shops, the traffic on University drive and Broward Blvd. will only get worse. I did'nt hear anything from our city planners about how all this traffic is going to be handled. Broward Blvd. was just redone in that area and its still a traffic mess. I,m all for progress and new concepts as long as you provide for the increase in traffic and parking.

I can't believe all the losers hating on this idea. Have you been to the Muvico in Boca? Pre-assigned seating, valet parking, restaurant, stadium seating, private loveseat couches... all of the problems you're complaining about are addressed, stop whining!
it must suck being so poor that you can't afford to spend $50 on a night out. |

They better have good security in the parking lot. Lots of crime in the Muvico 24 lot. Check out the police blotter weekly.

I'm with you. When there's a movie I really want to see I take my wife to the Premier in Boca. It's the only way to see a movie. I live in Cooper City. If this theatre is going to be like that then I don't have to drive all the way to Boca. |

With the era of cheap gas gone, it is time to re-evaluate the way the public will spend it (now a lot more limited) entertainment dollars whether for movies, sports, or going to the beach. It would be better to put of the decision for a while and see what happens. I pass three gourmet Italian resturants each night on the way home. Two that used to be full of customers are now empty. the third which is extremly upscale has Rolls Royces and those kind of cars. But it reflects the new economy we are living in.
and I wish I never went to Margate Christian Church http://www.swindledforjesus.com |

Great location for a movie complex. They will be busy as long as they don't overprice themselves out of business.

First of all I am delighted that the Fashion Mall went bankrupt. These idiots actually built a mall next door to an existing mall!!! Talk about a risky horrible business plan. They create a case where you have too many cows grazing on one parcel so the herd dies for lack of food. Why did we need a second mall 100 feet from the first one. Some would say the stores were much more upscale in the Fashion Mall and they were ,so just locate it far enough away to draw in people without setting up competition across the street. The developer and all the stupid tenants that went in there went broke- GOOD!!
Stupidity deserves just reward. This new use which includes a much needed theater sounds better ,however with the condo glut, I don't know who will buy them there. Good restaurants like a Cheesecake Factory will always do well. The condos will fail unless they are priced below $300,000. There is no demographic there to consume more expensive condos. They will need to be family friendly ,not adult 55 and over. There is a glut of vacant office space right now as well so how will they fill the new space. Medical space is the only answer. Build a medical arts complex that attracts doctors and you will have a synergy of people frequenting that development. Remember "City Place" in West Palm Beach is identical to this proposal.Movies, Great Restaurants, Office, Upscale retail,Condos, Publix, Comedy Club, etc.. Also FAo Scwartz and " Columbia Restaurant " busted out just to name a few.It is built and it struggles to survive. Now I will get to the real reason why "City Place" is doomed and failing and this project at the Fashion Mall site is doomed. If you draw a circle out 3 miles from the site you will see that a huge black population lives and shops in that area. That is why the Broward Mall is loaded with less affluent black shoppers looking for Nike pumps, not Louis Vitton handbags. The Galleria in east Ft. Lauderdale caters to a wealthy, white east Ft. Laud women and Gay male affluent clientele. The "Boca Town Center Mall "caters to rich white Jewish women that have gigantic money to burn all day long. Their shopping is their occupation. Broward Blvd has a huge black population a stones throw from these malls and that creates the obvious. Whites shun the Broward Mall because of it. They perceive it as dangerous. The Pembroke Pines mall out west is busy and booming. Caters to middle class white Cuban Americans that like to spend. Its not that the Fashion Center concept is that bad ,its who is in its perimeter that will shop there. A recipe for disaster. |

I just went to the movies. It was expensive. Plus cell phones kept going off and people kept going up and down the stairs to talk on the phone. I'm with you. I'd rather wait until it's on tv or buy the dvd. |
|
I use it to cut through and I've caught you once or twice. Get a room! |
