WTIC reported that she is a part-time dance instructor. It makes you wonder what people are getting academic credit for.

A make believe magnet school providing sex predators positions of authority. How much state tax money was spent creating this alternative learning environment?

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. Already this year they have documented over a dozen of these cases. Last year, in 2008 they documented 480 of these types of incidents.

I'm a bit confused. The 15 year old admits she initiated the sex and then Gagnon cut it off after the second time because she felt it was wrong. First of all Gagnon is only 20 yrs old and secondly the 15 byr old seems to be blackmailing Gagnon for doing the right thing. Hopefully the justice system will see the folly in pursuing this case.

If she is 20 she is not a certified teacher. The media always calls people teachers, half the time they are substitute teachers. that is much different. Or in this case who knows what she was.......... not a teacher.

I've got news for you. Virtually all of them are teachers in name only. The inappropriate title carries with it a hefty paycheck, some gold plated benefits, and the opportunity to tell children what to think. Schools are indoctrination centers staffed by unionized club members. What a disaster public education has become.

School districts can do any number of background checks, but all a negative result may certify is that an individual with a history of or inclination to inappropriate sexual contact with minors had not ever been arrested and prosecuted. Teachers are not necessarily more pure of motive, altruistic or moral than anyone else. That the male teacher felt it was acceptable to brag about his conduct to a colleague makes you wonder about the general climate at this school.

This consideration might be reflected in her low bail. Hopefully it was not just because female-female sexual contact is considered less invasive. There is no reason to give more leverage to a female teacher who has had contact with a male student (Fm) or a female teacher with a female student (Ff).

By contrast, male-male (Mm) and male teacher / female student (Mf) contact will be automatically considered more heinous, even in circumstances that may have been student initiated or sustained. Mm and Mf do not deserve more consideration, but Fm and Ff cases should not be minimized upfront.

Fm incidents are being taken more seriously by the legal system, but the female perpetrators always seem to get off more lightly than males at sentencing time, and based on comments in forums such as these the public in general (especially men) either think it's a big joke or assume that the boy enjoyed it, thus no harm done.

This school is marginal at best. These back-to-back scandals say a lot about how it is run and likely sound its death knell. Probably a good thing.

i just want to ask why people do not have doubts that reports are gounded. freidman's story looks like evidednt nonsense, and who knows where is the point from where female relationships are called sex. does anyone know what exactly those girls did? or did ot do at all? as far as i know, graduates from that school do very well academically in colleges.

The "offender" is 20 years old, and for all we know she could've been 19 at the time of the incident(s), therefore making her a teenager. Yes, this is still illegal but I find it extremely unreasonable to punish someone so young considering the circumstances that have been presented. The 15 year old admits initiating the relationship, and also admits that Anastasia ceased the relationship because she knew it was wrong. Should she really be punished in a way that could scar her for the rest of her life for a misguided decision she made at a time in her life when she's probably struggling with becoming an adult and coming into her own??? And as far as the "teacher" aspect, what kind of a teacher is a 20 year old anyway? It shouldn't come as a shocker to anyone employing a person that age to work with students so close to her own age that this may, at the very least, result in an environment conducive to sexual tension-which should in no way imply pedophilia. Hell, the law doesn't consider her old enough to buy herself drink. But she is old enough to make wise decisions when it comes to sex? Maybe so, but everyone makes mistakes, and this sounds like a mistake someone her age could be vulnerable to. Hopefully she has a good attorney, and hopefully such issues are given thoughtful consideration...rather than jumping to the popular yet ignorant "Child Molester/Predator" conclusion at the mere mention of such alleged conduct. I am fully aware of this law and appreciate why it exists, but sometimes its application is all-too-blind given its particularly stigmatizing consequences.

for those of you who posted complete uneducated, rude and disparaging comments about Anastasia and the Arts at the Capitol Theater program, I have quite a lot to say.

this school used to be an amazing place. you want to blame someone for it turning out this way? look no further than EASTCONN, run and populated by idiots and creeps who have no concern for the quality of education being received by students in this school. they hand-selected adam friedman, the convicted sex offender, who joined the staff in the 2006-2007 school year. I only had to walk by this guy's office, never actually deal with him and yet he STILL made me uneasy. When I was in attendance he was not even an instructor. Just a revolting looking weirdo who printed off promotional posters for us.

anastasia is a wonderful person, incredible dancer and performer. for those of you saying there's no way she was a "teacher" you are correct, few of the people working at ACT are certified teachers. the school is run by "instructors" who are artists working in their given fields. you're probably thinking I knew her in passing. wrong. she is my best friend's cousin and a truly amazing passionate artist.

she was part of the original class of the school, started in 2002 in the old mill buildings along the river. she was part of a class of 34 people, all of whom have gone on to achieve amazing things. we were all accepted to our first choice schools, we thrived in higher education thanks to our time at ACT and we all have incredible accomplishments under our belts now.

you think we learned nothing? that this school is a waste of tax money?

we are award winning writers, we are filmmakers who've spent months in the desert shooting documentaries with fleetwood mac, we were behind the camera during the shooting of "Brothers" and "No Country For Old Men," we were accepted into the most competitive acting programs in the country, we are in your favorite tv shows.

you people want to bash my school and my friends without knowing anything about us. I was accepted into one of the best creative writing programs in the country, at the premiere liberal arts college of the southwest. And based on one semester's worth of writing, my college decided to made the 2500 mile journey to connecticut from santa fe, new mexico so they could recruit more writers as phenomenal as myself.

there is a distinct difference between the crimes of adam friedman and the mistakes of anastasia. adam is a monster and ana is a wonderful, compassionate, thoughtful young woman. she is not a predator.

the year after my own graduation our absolutely amazing principal, the creator of the vision and drive behind ACT, felt that the school was becoming something he had never intended. he left and I believe the spirit of the place went with him.

while I still freely visit the school, buzzing myself in at the door like every other alumni, the attitude has changed. the school is no longer selective, taking in kids who have no business pursuing the arts. they are immature and they are not talented.

this used to be a wonderful place, and any of us among the original 34 can tell you exactly why ACT was so incredibly essential in our development as people. as conscientious artists.

take your bashing on over to an adam friedman thread and let loose. but leave anastasia ALONE.
