This is a waste of tax dollars. The Palace is filled with mold and asbestos. The electricl hasn't been updated. There isn't any fire suppression equipment. It's a health hazard and a fire hazard. And why would our mayor sit at the same table with Danbury's biggest slum lord that lets 40 illegals live in one apartment?

Did you explain to the people that are "spending all this money" they will have to park in either the hidden parking garage that no one knows about, or on Ives Street (both a half mile walk).

Or they can park in the parking lot behind the palace that is filled with abandoned cars, hyperdermic needles, and smells of urine.

Oh by the way don't pay any attention to the homeless that are sitting on the park benches. And the loud Latin music mixed with people yelling in Spainish. All of which adds a "Cultural Flair" to Main Street.

But feel free to spend all your money, that is if you find anything that is still open!

The spending is not going to do anything to help lower my taxes, but the city was kind enough to "donate" $ 75,000.00. For what? How about putting stuff like that to a vote? After all isn't it MY money that is being "donated"?

Tell me how do you throw 75,000 to this festival when the economic times in Danbury are so bad.

5,000 people...you'd be happy to get 1,000.

I think it's hilarious how all of you people complain and moan and bitch about how awful downtown is and how the city does nothing and it's all a waste of money and it's run by the mob and illegals and you would never go near main street and how it was so much better back in 1932 ... and now you all have a chance to turn it around and make it SOME sort of destination and pump some much needed money and customers into YOUR downtown in YOUR city that you hate so much and you STILL complain and say its a waste of time and money.

What is wrong with these people? If you want your city to be glorious and beautiful and get rid of all the illegals and so on, then the citizens of the city need to go and support these events downtown.

The only thing that will clean up downtown is to make it someplace that people with disposable incomes want to be. So stop complaining and make your city a better place. Who knows? It might just work!(GASP!)

The only thing bringing this city into the dumpster is the depressing can't-do attitudes of many of its citizens. Believe it or not, many people actually LIKE Danbury and see POTENTIAL... not ruin.... I just hope they're the silent majority.

they have to HATE their own community in order to justify their HATRED of Latinos. It's like that village in Vietnam that was "destroyed in order to save it."

Luckily the News Times message board in no way reflects the opinions of the majority of Danburians. It's only a small, disaffected few who try to poison any positivity in our town.

It is exciting to see that Downtown Danbury will once again be the hotspot. It will once again be the place to go for a good movie and have some fun. It will be exicitng to see all the new faces and all the new people that have never seen not heard of Danbury, Ct. what an exciting time for our town and surrounding communities.

$75,000 donated for a film festival that happens once a year! WOW! Don't you think this money would have been better spent by subsidizing the parking garages and having FREE PARKING downtown?
Gee, with FREE PARKING, maybe the downtown merchants, restaurants, etc. would be able to STAY IN BUSINESS for the whole year!!! This administration is clueless on how to revitalize the downtown area. Throwing our money away like this is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
If you had FREE PARKING first, and the business in the area was doing better, then and only then would this film festival make any sense. Where are people going to go for dinner downtown? Bella Luna? No, they went out of business! Tuscano? No,they're not really a restaurant anymore, they are just a bar serving underage kids! Horizon Restaurant? Did I say restaurant? Ciao? No, he finally got smart and sold it to some poor slob who won't last a year. Sabrosura? Do they sell food? Hopefully, you get my drift.

you've only named several restaurants within walking distance of just two of the several venues for these films. there are literally DOZENS of eating establishments less than a short drive away.

What do you mean by Tuscano "not really being a restaurant anymore?" Customers order food, which arrives and is eaten...are there any other requirements? I'd hardly call the crowd that frequents it in the evenings "underaged" kids...unless you think "kids" are anyone under 50 in pleated slacks.

I "get your drift" alright. You're a GROUCH. Stay out of the neighborhood, you're dragging us down.
