The show must not go on. Questioning their validity and citing the risk of harmful cigarette smoke, a Scott County judge has halted an Elko bar's ongoing "theatrical performances," which exploited a loophole in ...

I must disagree with the judge.
Has Judge Abrams been to any "theatrical" performances lately? I find the pin wearing actors at the bar more entertaining than those I have paid to see lately.
Oh, and by the way, I don't smoke so I have no claim in the matter.

I'm a thespian trapped in a smoker's body.

I have endured many plays that made me drink.

the curtain has almost closed down on this silly charade. What will these bars do to attract people in the summer when people go outside and don't go to bars much? Have they ever thought that maybe if their best customers deserted them because they couldn't smoke, that maybe they weren't much of a place to go in the first place? It's called marketing....successful bars know how to do it.

"The criterion for selection of the cast appears to be people with $2 and a desire to smoke in the bar. There is not the slightest suggestion that talent or an interest in conveying a message, other than smoking, is sought from any actor," he

Seems to me that you create an environment that the smoker has an intent to convey a message otehr than smoking and bingo, your back in the game.

In the summertime bars often have outdoor areas.(You seemed to have missed that). But I suppose that people won't be allowed to smoke even in those outdoor areas because anti-smoking zealots are terrified that they'll catch a whiff of smoke.

The zealots are in far more danger of inhaling other pollutants such as chemicals, car exhaust and mold but they're so fixated on cigarette smoke that no other thought can enter their brain.

And no, I don't smoke so you don't have that excuse.

And, so what if this isn't quite the art form you or anyone else imagined. It seems that the law did not define "actor" or "theatrical production" clearly enough. How is that the problem of the bar owners or patrons?

Hey bubbles, I don't smoke. I have never smoked. I don't expect to ever smoke. I'm more concerned by the efforts of those who try to run everyone else's life. We are talking about the use of a legal product here. There are other ways to keep yourself away from the effects of 2nd hand smoke.

Still don't get it do you? It's not about smoking. It's about the freedom of a business owner or a citizen period,to decide what he or she can do in their own establishments being taken away without input from the public. Voting ring a bell with you? Isn't ours a Government "Of the People, By the People, and FOR the People?"
