I completely agree! This is why I was able to get through the grief of losing my mom to cancer. I wrote poetry almost daily, created my blog, and just recently published my first book. The pain sometimes bleeds between the lines, but at least I could work through it.

Yes, poetry, or other artform has a purpose of getting internal feelings out... and into art.
