When the poet stands at nadir the world must indeed be upside-down. If the poet can no longer speak for society, but only for himself, then we are at the last ditch.

Any time a poet feels the need to lecture others about politics she becomes just another citizen with an opinion. There are too many self styled "poets" today who think they have something important to say. You can measure their hubris by the number of bumper stickers on their cars.
