San Rafael High Mountain Bike Team Extends Lead in Division 1.

The San Rafael High School mountain bike team took first place in Salinas this past Sunday to extend their lead in Division 1. The Bulldogs are considered a favorite to win the State Championships May 18.

The top point earner was sophomore standout Will Curtis who took third place in the 20-mile Varsity race.

The Bulldog’s three dominant JV riders, Niko Kaplanis, Clayton Herrick and Gavin Albertoli took 1st, 2nd and 5th respectively to hold onto a sweep of the top three spots in the overall standings. Clayton Herrick retains the overall leader’s jersey.

JV Girls’ rider Kyla Heckelman cracked the top ten for her first time this season with a strong 9th place finish.

In Frosh/Soph girls, Mary Brosnan improved to 3rd place just two seconds ahead of teammate Lauren Freudman. They are tied for 4th place in the overall standings.

New rider Quinlan Brow continues to surprise the crowd. In only his second race, Brow gapped the field by a huge 1:20 margin to take first place in Sophomore Boys.
