Oh, R1, if you could only get out of your institutionalized setting, you would run to the bookstore and cream all over each and every page!

Although I think that is certainly expensive, I have a number of books of art by a particular famous artist for which I paid a lot more than that for each book.

Just because a book, or anything else, is expensive, does not necessarily mean that it was an unwise or foolish purchase.

Many Rolls Royces are much more expensive than many Chevys, but both perform the exact same function in the same exact way. That doesn't mean that the purchase of a hugely expensive Rolls Royce is unwise nor foolish.

There are such things called "collectibles" ya kno which are vary valuable sometimes. For instance the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Auction Company which specializes in rare and collectible cars, and other motor vehicles, is not far from me here in Arizona. People often pay great sums of money for the vehicles they auction.

Yeah, yeah. I collect antique books and furniture and glassware. I know about the collectibles market. If it were one of a kind, or very rare, sure. But a contemporary book? I'm not so sure. They are printed by the thousands and millions, depending on demand. As I remember you are probably in your fifties. How much do you expect this book to appreciate in the next 30 years? My expectation would be not much. Better off putting it in the stock market.

Why all the cynicism about the price? Have you looked at the book yet? I'll reserve my judgement until I get a chance to look it over in person. Books are expensive to produce, and if they're beautifully produced and on a subject of interest to me, I'm actually grateful it's not produced cheaply. It's easy to sit back and snark cynically about anything. It's harder to get up off your butt and go check things out in person before you make a public statement about it.

Hmmmm. There is one library in the country (in Texas) that has EVERY book only online. Wonder if this is one of them? And would it be in the art section or adult section?

Quite! If we invested based on his recommendation, we'd be broke in a month.
