Karen Maggio isn't afraid to step out of her comfort zone. Known as the "adventurous art teacher," the Penfield resident started teaching at age 40, learned the art of graffiti for her students and joined the church choir on a bet with no musical experience.

When whites in Penfield do graffiti it's called art, when blacks in the city do it they call it a crime.
