Jim and Pam Jordan thought their church friends were just going to spruce up the landscaping around their house while they were away on a vacation to Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Wow! Not only does this speak highly of the people involved in doing the makeover, it speaks well about the Jordan Family...a giving family who had this wonderful expression of love done for them.

So let me see if i got this straight? The house needed an HVAC system and remodeling but the family was on vacation in Pigeon Forge? Why not have a staycation and work on your home with the money?
The article says he cuts grass and does maintenance at the church school...call me jaded i guess, as long as everyone who worked on it is fine with it.

Bob
Everyone was 'Fine' with it, the story you read is a VERY brief description of what Mr Jordan does, he does so much more than just those two things. I have known this family for more than ten years, this could not have happened to a more deserving couple.
The daughter is another story and her husband too, but that is where the 4 grand kids come in to the story.

Hey "Jaded",
If you will read it again , you will find that the church sent them on vacation....they didn't just take a vacation. I'm sure if they knew what was going on , they would have jumped in and worked as hard as anyone. I personally found this to be very heartwarming.

Amen!
I know for a fact that Mr Jordan would have worked on the project himself, he suffers with MAJOR back problems, but that would not have stopped him.
Shame there is so much negativity towards people that do good in this world, but glad you can see through these people and say there are wrong too!

Jim Jordan is a great man and I am thrilled for him. What gets me is that finally this church does something worthwhile they feel the need to get publicity from it.

So, bob, I was hoping this would be one forum with no negative comments, but there has to be one in every crowd who even picks the good news apart. Maybe someone will do something nice for you someday...just for the sake of doing something nice.

Good morning Waldo-- it appears that the "publicity" you refer to arose because the TV and Citizen-Times found something newsworthy to report. I think your concern about some church seeking publicity is a wrong guess. A lot of happy faces there and I don't see any offering plates being passed.
Sounds like these folks read Philippians 4:13 and decided to try it out.

The church family did something that is to be commended. There are people and I mean LOCAL citizens who ask for help on a daily basis from the city and county thru the low income assistance programs but get nothing.Due to unfortunate circumstances they may need help with a ramp for their porch, heating, food and are turned down. But who gets the help?Lazy good-for-nothings.People who could actually work if they got off their duffs. And those who have children just to get extra assistance from the county and don't take care of what they have. Those in real need get nothing.Let's not forget the illegals who seem to ALWAYS get assistance somehow or another.I don't think assistance programs were created for that use.Drunks, druggies and illegals and criminals seem to get a free ride. Its wonderful to see people who really care about what they are doing and for whom they are doing it for.

I think this is the most wonderful story I have read in ACT is a while. I always wonder why the local churches go to other cities to complete this type of work. I know it is mission work but we have so many deserving people in our area that can use the help. God Bless the North Asheville Church and its workers. I know those workers were able to sleep well after their good deed.

Way-to-go North Asheville Church! These folks put some feet to their faith, got away from religion and got busy with the Lord's work!

Can you imagine how this would have turned out if some government agency would have been in charge--$70,000 and ten years later there would have been a committe, a plan, a ribbon cutting ceremony and nothing more. This is how we should take care of each other!

Waldo, go have coffee with bob. I guess that no matter how good things can be, someone will always look for the negative. Undoubtedly, some who make it to heaven may think the gold streets just aren't shiny enough. As remarkable as it may seem, some HAPPY events do make it to the media and the media actually acts upon them. Thanks, ACT for covering this event. And one more thing, Waldo, what if North Asheville Baptist did want publicity? I am not a member of that church, but I do know they ARE in the publicity business in a big way...publicity for JESUS and to get souls saved.

A wonderful thing for all concerned. There is no "down side" to this story.

May other churches follow this lead.

What's wrong with the publicity? Maybe some of the other churches will get off their collective butts and do something worthwhile LOCALLY, instead of going elsewhere in the country to restore homes and quit sending everything to "foreign missions".

Too many churches wait until Christmas and then make a big deal out of helping a few families with food and toys, when these same families are just as needy the other 364 days a year.

I think this was a great idea. The church utilized donated items to refurnish the home. They used donated goods and services. I believe they wanted to do something for a family who wasn't asking, but were serving the Lord and others while in need themselves. From reading the article, the church didn't put up any money. They had donations from both within the church and outside the church to pull this off. Great job!
