Your recent column answered a troublesome question for me. I, too, am a constant reader. From the time I learned to read the cereal boxes and the day old ChicagoTrubune that was mailed to my grandparents home next door to ours on the Indiana farm, till the present day when I read at least one newspaper in any town we happen to be traveling through. Obituaries, council meetings and weddings included. My husband no longer even raises an eyebrow.
BUT sitting or lounging about during the day to read is so difficult because of the guilt. "I should be doing gardening, laundry, shopping, meeting someone for lunch, the bills...."
I attach it to growing up where a lot of work needed to be and every one was expected to do their share as they were able. This was carried with me through school, college and work......work first and then the pleasures. It could be the old time Methodism I was introduced to by those same grandparents. They were hard working people as were my wonderful parents.
But I, too, wait until bedtime to grab that great book and fall off to sleep when it collapses on my chest and the next day I'm often not sure what I read..........some of your thoughts will be very helpful...I was so pleased to see that I wasn't the only one with guilty pleasures from the printed page.
