'In the Shadow of the Moon' at Cinema Arts -
Disbelief still clings like layers of lunar dust to the notion of mankind venturing to the moon.

Almost forty years ago! What happened to the bright techies from Long Island that tore that fragile Lunar Excursion Module from their brains and made it tough and light enough to make such a risky voyage?
It's a different country now -- Instead of being united in technological achievement driven by a dead President's vision, we argue. Every public forum has to have a polarizing point and counterpoint talking head. And the rest of the countries sneer at us for being so morally bankrupt to have squandered forty years of space leadership -- for what? There is no question the economic and political benefits that came with those brave souls climbing into Grumman's little invention and making footprints on the Moon. We deserve everything we are going to get for forgetting or ignoring how high the entire world was lifted and how much we were respected for the achievments. I used to say that we woiuld need Chinese or Russian passports to land in a crater, but now I think there is little chance of that -- We have not only forgotten how to do it but we won't be able to afford it. Shame on all of us for letting our "leaders" throw our heritage away. Forty years! |
