I started when I was 17 as well. Just last summer. I was scared..and just a few days ago I did my recital with 14/13 year olds...on pointe. You have to give it your all. I don't have amazing arches either. It's confidence, courage, stability, perseverance...all of those things. Try a WHOLE summer of intensive..if you can get through it, you can be a ballerina..or jazz dancer, or anything :)!

you, and anyone else with a similar question can email me at

As a professional ballerina who has danced with the top ballet companies of germany and austria, I would suggest to you that you dance ballet as much as you want to but don't hope of becoming a professional ballet dancer. This takes years of hard work and dedication, and by the time you reach the adequate amount of training you need, you will have surpassed the maximum age (about 24) of being accepted into a ballet company. I am sorry to burst your bubble, but if you have never taken any ballet classes before, then that is too high of a hurdle to jump over.

I'm curious as well, I'm 17 and always wanted to be in ballet but when I was a kid we were too poor to afford ballet classes. I'm not shooting to be a professional ballet dancer but I'd like to at least dance for myself but through proper training so I don't hurt myself ><
I hope it's not too late.

Hi I'm 17 this year and I've just started on Adult ballet beginner lesson currently, and attended 4 lessons already. I used to be a chinese dancer for 2 years and my parents stop me from joining.:( I really really love ballet since young and I've the passion for it and I wanted to join last time but because of family finance I cant.:( It's my dream to become a professional dancer and I was wondering if I still got any chance to be one? And I wanted to join graded class though! Can I start from grade 4? Any advices?:)
