Leonid Massine was one of the most important choreographers ever, yet his ballets seem to be rarely performed now. His work is much more interesting and satisfying than Balanchine's. When will he return to the repertory in most companies?

There is a rumoured sort of repository catalogue for these works. He talked with some people about this in 70 something in Oakland, I believe the story went. Maybe Ron Guidi has some info or notations of his works. I trust that this wont be those horrible old Noverre books he used to drag into rehearsal and peep at very privately, in a somewhat Dr. Copellius fashion, but rather a true notation of st least some of his works. Then there is the diary of his talks with Nureyev, after which talks Nureyev bought Galli so Massine could have a few $$$. There was a fellow in the know, I seem to remember, who seemed to be able to converse with him rather well...Massine was Not an easy read, who had been with SFB, and elsewhere, but his name escapes. Mebbe later it will surface. Good Luck!

His sons are still alive, and he filmed his ballets.

Delightful news! Are the sons interested in the ballet arts as well? What a wonderful history to enjoy in memory. What of these films? Are they available for companies to use to stage the works, or for staged showings? Leonide Massine knew the joy of danse (and how to share the feast with the audience)!!!
