Injured - how long will it take to heal?

I am 46 years young;-) it happened to me today at my physical therapy. I am recovering from a spine surgery that has been performed 2.5 months ago. I am doing my therapy at JMP in Sherman Oaks for a month now. While I was doing a stretch in a cage under supervision of a theraphyst we both heard a loud popping noise in my left buttock. I first tried not to pay attention to pain, but now six hours passed and I feel its getting worse. Instead of fixing my sciatic nerve damage in my right leg now I will be crippling on both legs for a while.

I had a major competition last week and we just learned the end of the dance...you drop into the splits...I was almost to the ground, but during our last run-through, my (fractured) wrist gave out and I dropped down. I felt a pop in my leg and I have used Icy-Hot multiple times and had medication but it still hurts. I can barely sit on my right side, it's too painful. I can barely even touch my toes or kick above my waist! I used to be way more advanced! How do I heal, because I have a new dance performance in 1.5-2 weeks and I HAVE to be better! How do I heal and/or what did I do to my leg?

I had warmed up and everything and I always lift my leg up in the air. One day I was lifting my leg up and I heard a pop. Ever since then I can't do a split as good as I could. I can't lift my right leg as high as I could. I'm afraid it will interfere with me trying out for cheer leading because, my right leg hurts so bad if I stretch far . Also it has been going on for say a month now likely.

I did this 15 years ago, overstretched and am in constant pain ever since. I live on painkillers. It is more than a pity that there is not more awareness about the dangers of overstretching.

I can do oversplits over 270 degress, but without warm up, its very dangerous...
So pls warm up before even a simple split otherwise this could be dangerous 4 your muscle, and dancing carrier..

i used to be flexible when i was eight. I'm nineteen now and have been trying to gain my flexibility. I can BARELY do a left split. I would like to be able to do a full center split. If i have a really strong person force me into a split while i'm stretching, will it damage me?

So about five months ago I was at practice and I was going from a lunge to a split slide across the ice and when I turned my leg into the splits the back of my leg near my butt made a discusting pop sound and since then I havnt been able to kick my leg up , split, or stretch to that side without the worst pain ever. I don't know what happened and I'm scared to tell my mom because I don't want to have to drop out of my lessons and practices.... HELP PLEAAASSEEE I don't want to ruin my skating... or my leg.

I was stretching, but obviously not enough, because I went into the splits, and it just hurt. But I could like walk and stuff, and my mom told me that if something tore, I wouldn't be able to walk. So that's a good sign. But I'm scared it won't heal.

To DacerProbz,
That is exactly what happened to me. If you can walk, then nothing tore. If it hurts when you walk, you strained it pretty baldy. If it doesn't hurt when you walk, it's still strained, but you're in much better condition. Lightly stretch, ice, roll it, and take a week or two off. That's what I'm doing. It stinks, but it's totally worth it if its to save your dancing career.

Something very similar has happend to me!! It's been two week since the pain from right under my butt has been hurting but it hurts everytime I do a cartwheel or even attempt to do the splits again.

I'm always on my feet and on the go I seriously come home from work to dance and or walk around some more. I never stretch or warm-up before dance with I'm paying back as of now by the way. Now, I'm getting used to stretching before I dance just so I won't be in so much pain afterwards unfortunately, that isn't the case because both of my thighs on the back are tremendously sore! I can't. Even do a split the correct way I have to do the fake split. It's been going on for about a week in a half now, good thing I'm off for the next three days so my body can rest even though I want time to dance my heart out which I can it's just going to be a struggle when it comes to warming up and stretching,:/:(

about 2 weeks ago I did an oversplit and it didn't hurt that much, but it was the highest split I've eer done. It wasn't in class tho... the next day I'm pretty much limping, my thigh was burning!!! so I take it easy for a while, and it still hurts, but seems to be getting better... my performance was today, and I had to do a split... I warmed up a lot today, and I actually DID them today for the first time in weeks!!! It didn't hurt THAT much... But now it REALLY hurts!!! Mostly in my butt, and now I'm limping again..:/ I'm just glad I get the rest of the month off from them :) if it doesn't heal by my classes in June, then I want to see a doctor.

i did this about 11 years ago. constant pain and now reliant on pain relief daily except now im pregnant and can't take the pain pills. so im in agony. drs never figured out what i did. i came down off a pole and dropped into the splits from too high up. it made a pop so loud my friend heard it from 15 metres away! if anyone can tell me the cause of this pop from a drs result i can the go ask my Dr to look into it for me. thanx and girls/guys see ur Dr and don't stop searching for the answer till u find it and fix it coz ur quality of life WILL suffer from this debilitating injury later on.

Same thing. I was doing some diffrent moves and i kicked my leg up and when it came down i went instantly into a split on accident and i heard it popped. I got up instantly and it hurt but i could walk. I layed off for a few weeks and tried stretchong and it still hurted. I ca. Stretch now but not like i use to, but im healing slowly.

I've done ballet for about 6 years now, all this time, I have NEVER gone into a full split. Maybe because I didnt go for classes all the time and I didn't practice at home. Oh and I really hated my teacher(still do). I am able to do the "butterfly position" very well but I CANNOT do the splits. In March, was motivated by my show choir dance teacher to become more flexible so i started stretching at home. It helped but one day I decided to force my right split down. Worst decision ever. I pulled a muscle and it hasn't healed for a month. At that time i didn't think it was a big deal so I continued stretching despite the pain in my right leg, just above the back of my knee. Then I realised only my right leg was in pain but not my left. I stopped stretching for about a week and put ice on the area and the pain did go away. So after that week i started stretching again but when i tried to do a right split, the pain came back and i wasn't even forcing it. My left leg was, of course, fine. And now I cant do a right split at all. And my ballet teacher wants our splits perfected by next week. What do you suggest I do?

It happened on the same leg as me
