I have injured my leg doing the splits (i wasn't warm enough- this is a lesson that I have learned to WARM UP- no one else should have to learn this lesson!) I was doing the splits without being warm enough and my back leg muscle is injured. I rested it for a week and tried to do the splits for a show, but it hurt so much and i couldnt get nearly close enough (when I can usually do them!) I (sadly) had to do jazz splits instead. I was first injured last Monday. My questions are: how long will it take to heal, should i dance in the healing period, and if so, how much should i do, and will my leg be even more flexible after it has healed.
NB: I realise no one can tell for sure, as it is up to an individual, but please answer my questions to the best of your abilites!

o my gosh, the EXACT same thing happened to me last week!! i was injured in the same place, and...unfortunately, im not sure how to heal it. im gonna go get it checked up next week...i hope it isnt anything serious.I thought they would heal in one weeks time and tried to do that split again but i can get about 5 cm from the splits and it starts getting that painful feeling again =(

oh really!:( well i did heal, after a week of rest. then i tried to do the splits again (after warming up)...i managed, but the next day when i tried, the same muscle was hurting again! that means more rest, and with exams just around the corner...

let this be a lesson to me and everyone else- WARM UP!!!!

it sort of sounds like the injury we were talking about in this conversation, but a pop? that seems odd... i would recommend you get it checked

yes you should definately see a doctor. also, talk to your dance teacher, as they genrally know about the muscles you need to use inn your legs and how to rest and care for them.

A pop is not a good sound! You could have really injured your self! I would not recommend pushing your stretches until you see a doctor. I don't know but it sounds like you could have strand or ripped your muscle or tendon. The pop is a indicator of a possible tear. Just be careful! it could be nothing more than a pull but I would check it out. Tell you teacher/coach as well. Hope you all feel better!

don't keep trying to stretch until you see someone about it. it could make it worse, and then would take longer to heal.

OMG! i have the exact same issue, being a dancer i kinda forget to stretch coz of my busy schedule, so i was doing the splits without stretching or warming up, i then did them, but i felt the most awful pain eva on my butt, i straight away got up, and was like AAHHH!.. it was so uncomfortable i cud barely lift my leg, to make that worse (this happened on a monday) I had my ballet exams on a Thursday for grade 4. I totally freaked out. I went to the doctor and he sed i strained my muscle.. its been a week since and i can do my daily activities.. but i can't do the splits let alone do high kicks again..

Can someone help me!! What shud i do..?

I heard a pop on my butt and it hurts so bad. It got better like really slowly. It's been about a month now since it happened. I can't do the splits but can do high kicks so I think it will get better but needs a lot of rest.

i did that exact same thing! i didn't stretch enough and when i went down into the splits for my audition for my highschool's dance team, i felt a pop. it's the exact pain under my butt. i have no idea what it is! & i have that pain right now, and you're the first person that i've seen who went through it. it's been the same pain since about march, so it's been about 2 months, and i just made my highschool poms team... and i'm starting to get worried if i'll be flexible again...

How you feel now???I think you must be much better-anyway when you have this kind of injury you have not to use the injured muscle!you can do anything else in dancing exept from these movements that hurt..the first think you can do IMMEDIATELLY is to put ice on the injured muscle!and ALWAYS use ice daily 3 times per day until it will be ok again!apart from that i suggest you do some physiotherapies!!!!it will heal sooner...and ask your doctor for advises!!!he knows YOUR personal case so he can give you the suitable treatement !and also use voltaren or muscoril or counterpain gel...your doctor will suggest you the most suitable if needed:):)

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Sagittarius

You're wearing rose-tinted glasses today, especially when you look at some of the special people in your life. Right now you only want to see their good points and you'll deliberately turn a blind eye to any faults that might be on show. If you can escape from the real world for a day with you-know-who you'll have a marvelously romantic and emotional time together. But do your best to come back to earth tomorrow.
