I would just like to make everyone aware that daning on your toes in barefeet, socks, ballet slippers, street shoes or anything other than pointe shoes is dangerous!(Unless you are doing toe stands in hard shoes irish or tap but that is different and only do this when your teacher instructs you to becuase she will watch you and you might even need special equiptment like toe pads.) Pointe shoes were made for a reason. They are hard soled and toed, and give support to places needed. Dancing on your toes in anything but pointe shoes is very dangerous so please don't attempt EVER!

yeah i've seen ads for flat ballet slippers that show the person actually standing en pointe and that's kinda dumb because it might influence little kinds to try it and they'd hurt themselves!

Wow! Thought that was a given. Absolutely agree with you on that point. I wonder why you brought this up. Did you see someone attempt to do that?

Many people say comments like this:
"Am I ready for pointe? I can stand on my toes in bare feet!"
And many other things like this.

Oh!!!

Very wrong indeed. It's less about toes and more about strength of ankles, legs, knees, etc. and add great technique with it.

Toe standing =Ouch and a no-no.

Yeah. Lots of my friends will say "Go on pointe now." and think I'm weak when I say I can't because it's just... different.

Don't let your friends bug you too much. Your strength of character is also a huge deciding factor on readiness. Stay strong. When I'm dancing with the company most of us don't every wear our pointe shoes except when necessary for a pointe piece. Technique is the key to get and keep pointe strength.

It would be FAR WORSE if someone went on pointe too early and broke, sprained, or dislocated something. Those injuries end a career real fast not to mention scar tissue to deal with for the rest of one's life. A big ouch right there.

Just be safe and ignore someone that is being pushy before considering your safety. Take care.

I think I might have done that once as a kid.. not for very long. My mom wouldnt let me be a dancer so I just kind of obsessed over it, you know.. I hope that won't create problems for me when I start dancing soon.

But yeah I have seen people on youtube dancing on pointes that dont even belong to them, and havent even had any training. ahh.

I don't think you will be harmed... Although it is very dangerous, and you were very young.

I am glad people agree with me about this issue. I know most children try out a few steps on pointe as youngsters, but it is dangerous.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone has ever heard of or seen a ballerina tap dance on her toes (with taps on pointe shoes)up and down a flight of steps (either in years past or recent years?

To begginer ballerina,
Where and when did you see it performed?

If you do not like it (and everyone is entitled to their own opinion) then you are just what you say -- still a beginner ballerina. Have you tried it?? Evidently not. It requires much more talent and strength,in addition to ambition, than that of your normal ballerina -- which is why there are so few (if any)who can perform this. I therefore regret to say that I doubt you would ever be able to perform it yourself, even when you advance in your training.(Maybe that's why you don't like it??)
But I would be most interested in knowing where and when you saw it performed. Do you perhaps have a program showing it as being performed, or anything confirming it as being performed??

I would still like to hear from any others who have seen this -- even if like beginner ballerina they did not care for it.

i have seen it on youtube and i know it is probally alot harder to do that han normal pointe but it just doesnt look very pritty but that just could be cus the person had a low arch and instep.

and i think thats a bit harsh saying i would nver be able to do it my self and have you know i am best in my class and one of the best dancers in our school so before you go saying how rubbish i am without even knwing me just think ok

and i dont think people will want to post their oppinions if your just going to tell them they are wrong and be rude to them

and if you go on you tube and type in pointe tap or something like that then watch the girl in black pointe taps you will see what i mean by not very pritty

this one i mean she has her legs bent and it just looks horrible it looks like she just trying to do frappes with things on the end of her shoes and it isnt very pritty if you see what i mean

although it can look nice when performed correctly
