Absolutely not! I started when I was 16 and went onto pointe when I was 17. It definitely takes a lot of determination and patience. I went to an arts high school as a theatre major and took classes with the dance majors as electives. So I was basically taking classes with seasoned dancers who had to audition to get into the school. Starting out at the bottom is definitely hard because of your age group. Most of the people in your class will be stronger dancers, but don't let it discourage you. If it is something you have a strong drive to do you should go for it. There are a few success stories of girls starting out late in the game and making it professionally, but those are once in a lifetime events. Its never to late to start a hobby, though.

I'm 14 as well and I would really love to start ballet again. Like you I did ballet when I was about 4 or 5 and I quit because (yes this will sound stupid) because my ballet shoes hurt my feet. I regret this descision and wish I could turn back time.
I really want to be the exception and become a professional but this will sadly never happen because I haven't convinced my parents to let me start plus we hardly have any time to do classes. I am so depressed.
But I still dream of starting ballet and going on pointe in a couple months so I catch up to girls my age and hopefully go to a really good school. Oneday....

I have been doing lots of strectches etc
but I'm still really inflexible and quite uncoordinated but I will not stop until I have reached my dream.

I am 13 and I really want to start ballet too. Is this too old to go pro? I really want to start and train super hard so that I can catch up.
But...(yes here comes the big but!) I haven't even convinced my parents to let me start they think its weird that I want to start and say "you're too old! people start ballet at 3 not 13!"
How can I convince them!?
And any tips on getting really flexible quickly ie. splits asap
and what kind of stretches can i do at home to prepare myself for ballet. I want to be really good if I start. What kind of excersises can I do at home I mean, and they have to be simple ones, like my parents aren't gonna buy me a barre or those elastic things so what are some I can do that are really helpful but don't require equipment.

Thanks so much! Hopefully I can start ballet!

oh an how long will it take for me to get on pointe, roughly?

Oh (sorry) and do you guys have any success stories on starting ballet late? ie. getting on pointe really quickly, going pro etc even though you started late? It would really give me the courage to convince my parents and start ballet.

wish me luck in convincing parents

DOnt worry. I am pretty muc in the same situation. I have been doing ballet for about 7 years, and I'm in 10th grade and 15. It's kind of hard emotionally, because I'm in classes with 11 years old girls, and I feel really fat sometimes, and sometimes I get really depressed about never going en pointe. But really, it is so worth it because I love dancing. If your family suppports you (it can get expensive even when you're not yet en pointe)then I definately think you should start. It will be hard, but remember there are other girls in the same situation as you :)

No, it's never too late as long as you aren't pursuing a professional career. If you are you need to be taking ballet a minimum of four times per week.

I'm 14 and I've really developed an avid interest in this art. Are there any starter stretches and technique exercises you know to help start out at home?

something that really helps a lot is this http://balletpointeshoes.info
It's a digital book with real professional lessons in it. Especially for getting into pointe shoes.
You can practice knowing you're doing it right.

It's never too late to start ballet if you really love it. I started ballet at 13 and i really enjoyed it. It's really tough at first but you'll soon catch up with lots of practices.

I started ballet when I was 13 I'm 14 now and started pointe straight away saying that I have been dancing since I was 2 so my feet are strong enough and I have the a background in almost every type of dance (tap, highland, jazz, lyrical, modern, cheer, disco, majorette and ballet) but if you haven't danced before you start ballet maybe 6 months to a year of practise and determination and you'll be on pointe. Good luck <3<3!

Hey... im 14 and started ballet. Yesterday I had my first ballet show!! i loved it and it was the greatest thing that has ever happened to me... im fit, flexible and a "natural", as said by my teacher. Id loove to dance on pointe, and i can go on pointe with demipoint shoes. When do you think ill start doing pointe work? I love ballet though ive been dancing for only 4 months... my dream is not to be a pro but to dance, if even just a little, on pointe. What do you think?

Guess what!

I started ballet when i was 13, i am 14 now and have been doing ballet for about 6 months. I love it so much! My teacher says I have naturally good turnout and that I am doing very well. But I always have trouble remembering all the steps to the dances. Can anyone help me with this. I practice them at home but I always seem to forget them.

I hope to go on pointe by the end of this year! I have been practicing so hard!
