I never knew this girl or her family, but I still think about her all the time. I happened to drive past that spot on my way home from work that day and I'll never be able to get the image I saw out of my head. My heart goes out to everyone who did know her, especially her sister.

Mr. Brown, your strategy of delaying via appeals is not working. The attendance at Nicole's candlelight vigil was extraordinary. If you think public opinion is waning, you are sorely mistaken. To the honorable judges of Humboldt County involved in this case, how long are you going to allow Mr. Brown to drive this bus? I thought you had authority, yet here we are one year after Nicole's death and still not one of you are willing to take a stand against Mr. Brown's pointless appeals. This is a travesty against the Quigley family. It is past time to do the right thing and prosecute Whitmill and Flores to the full extent of the law...NOW!

My heart goes out to this family. I did not know the Quigley family, but happen to drive by the accident site after the horrific tragedy struck. Also my son goes to Dows Prairie and knew of Nicole. This is a true tragedy, and it should have never happend.
God Bless this family.

I was at the beautiful memorial service last evening, along with hundreds of others. The turnout and the ceremony were such a tribute to Nicole and her family, and to the community.

It was sad, of course, but it was also a celebration of her life. I was particularly touched by the attendance of so many school-age children, probably many of them Nicole's classmates, and school teachers and employees. There were also two men there I recognized as off-duty Highway Patrolmen, and several uniformed firefighters, who represented their co-workers who I'm certain did everything humanly possible a year ago to try to save Nicole, and rescue her sister and mother.

We see so much ugliness and bitterness in the news every day. It was uplifting to see this and to remember that 99% of Humboldters are kind, caring, and selfless people, whose names or actions we never read about.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Leo

If there have been slight tensions or frictions between you and a loved one recently, this is the perfect day to get them out into the open, thrash them out and then forget about them. Things could get quite heated in the process but don't worry because they'll work out all right in the end. Put as much energy into kissing and making up as you did in arguing!
