I'm 17 and I want to dance ballet. I have a teacher that wants to teach me privately but I don't feel as supported by my parents. They tell me I'm a good dancer and all but they always make excuses about not being able to take me. I feel like this is the age where I become independent, but how do I approach my parents? I want to dance more than anything and I can't keep putting it off. I'm aiming for a job and looking to support myself for dance.

I'm in the same boat, except I am just trying to start ballet. Exceptmy parents think its a waste of time because I am 16, so they think I won't get very far. I completly understand how upseting it can be when you aren't supported for your dreams, and its even harder when your parets dont support you. I say, if you have a passion for something, go for it. You are at an age where you are getting independant, however you may still need emotional and financial support; you dont want to do it on your own!

Thanks guys for replying. I guess that now that it's the summer and school is over my mom wants to start looking for jobs with me. I think that when you start dancing there are certain sacrifices you and your parents have to make. So maybe if we give it time, train, and enjoy dancing we'll all have that opportunity to dance our hearts out :)
