Hi, I'm also 17 and wanted to start pointe. I've had some basic ballet training, and my first class is on Friday. My teacher is a professional ballet dancer and choreographer, and has offered me free ballet classes. I'm soo excited but nervous, I love ballet and wanted to be one since I was very small. It's my passion and I can't live without it.

Hey there!I'm so happy I found this page!I'm 16 years old and just going to start my ballet classes for the first time! When I was about 10,I did rythmic gymnastics which includes ballet,so I really have an idea of what it is!When I told my mom she told me I was too old to start ballet for the fist time and that I shouldn't do it!I was very mad at her ,and YES I'm starting ballet after summer!I'll get a fantastic preparation during the summer and I'll become a ballerina as I've always dreamed!
I wanted to tell you ,TRISTIN, that I'm in your situation and that you have ALL MY SUPPORT!GO THERE AND DO IT!

i started ballet 6 months ago when i was 13 (im 14 now) and it is so much fun. I love it so so so much.

the teacher says i have naturally good turnout and that I am doing really well. my only problem is that I have trouble memorising all the steps to the dances, I always forget!

hopefully by the end of this year I will be able to tell you that I am on pointe! I have been practicing and stretching and dancing so hard! except i only do 1 hour a week, and thats with the girls my age. They are really good and slowly i am catching up.:)

Soo I'm back and disappointed, I remember posting about that ballet class I had, well I couldn't go..:/ but I have good news. I hopefully will start pointe the second week of July. I get to have a private teacher whose a wonderful professional dancer. Now all I have to do is buy pointe shoes and I'm all set :)

Hey!
If - Like Tristin and Natalie - I want to start ballet at 16/17,
What kind of stretches should I do to prepare my body for the classes?
And what kinds of exercises should I do to prepare my self for pointe shoes?
Thank you!!

How did you begin? By a class or just a personal instructor? I'm 17 and want to begin so badly, but I can't find any where that will teach me.:(

Girls, I've just read these posts and I must admit that I'm in the same situation. I'm 17 and the only thing I do really dream of is ballet. Unfortunatelly my parents couldn't have paid for my classes when I was a child and now I know it's too late for me. Seriously the only thing I would change in my life is back at time till I was 6 and never let anyone to stop my ballet carreer. I try to practise by myself at home and I also dance a little bit of jazz, but I dram of pointe schoes and turning a perfect fouette. Is there any chance for me to make my dreams come true?

absolutely, but you should definitely try to find a teacher that will and is willing to teach you. I found a ballet teacher who can teach me pointe and. Alley for free. As long as you follow you're heart, work hard, and believe in yourself then you'll succeed. I am 17 and just started ballet 4 weeks ago, and in January I get to go on pointe. There's a certain elegance that comes to ballet dancers when they start late. We don't need the training of emotion because we have a love for ballet that most dancers don't. So don't give up and good luck :)

Hey, wow Trisian, i hope you find what you really love in life, im happy that you still kept to realistic dreams (Nursing) because less than 5% of profesional dancers get INTO the dancing industry (i know your looking to becoming a pro, but still...)

Have fun :)

hey Syddancer8 donot be disappointed because if the first teacher offered to give you free lessons that probably means you ve got talent and she saw potentials in you so always have faith in yourself and if your mind could concieve it and if your heart could belive it you could defenitly achive it. and i wish the best of luck with this the private teacher :):):)
