April 25, 2012 (Raleigh, NC )– Umicore Building Products USA, the manufacturer of VMZINC® architectural zinc, is sponsoring an extensive educational article in Architectural Record magazine that allows architects to earn Continuing Education (CE) hours for LEED Credential Maintenance.
Peter J. Arsenault, FAIA, NCARB, LEED-AP, wrote the article, which is entitled,“Zinc Roofing and Wall Systems: The sustainable architectural metal of choice.” It is featured in Architectural Record’s web-based Continuing Education Center at http://continuingeducation.construction.com/
under “New In Sustainability.”
“...Zinc is emerging as an architectural metal of choice in the U.S. due in part to its comparatively low level of energy intensity and its widespread and long-term use in other parts of the world,” Arsenault wrote in his introduction.“Design professionals in European cities such as Paris, have specified zinc roofs since the late 1800s... Zinc building products, including roofing, wall cladding and rainwater systems, are thus enjoying new popularity in the U.S. due to recognition of its sustainability qualities and its long-lasting, low-maintenance benefits for owners.”
After reading and studying the article, architects will be able to:
Differentiate among basic qualities of zinc as a sustainable building material compared to other architectural metals.
Analyze and assess the multiple qualities of zinc that can contribute to green and sustainable building design, including its long-term life-cycle benefits.
Explore the qualities of zinc roofing in green building design among common application types.
Examine the different applications of exterior zinc wall panel systems, including green building applications.
After passing the online test associated with the article, architects will receive one GBCI (Green Building Certification Institute) CE hour for LEED Credential Maintenance.
LEED is the acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a rating system for buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2000. An architect who has passed the USGBC’s test to become a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) must maintain his or her credentials by continuing to accrue CE hours.
