. I think the eye is more easily intrigued than the ear, which, being less adventurous seems to require the solace of mostly familiar sounds to keep from getting lost.
This is so interesting. Why is it, do you think?

Funny how someone can reasonably hear the Double Concerto as alien and cold, while another such as myself can only talk of exhilaration and near ecstasy. Carter's music has the mystery and illumination of nature and our lives interior and exterior. Also, please don't forget Brian Ferneryhough is still very much alive, speaking of modern masters. But with Carter, yes, it's like the passing of an epoch.
