Oh My God. I just read this post from front to back. What a bunch of crap spouts out the nose of these Russian want-a-bees. No Russian that lives today or that has ever lived has any right, or any ability to condemn the Ukrainian language. How dare you Russians post such clear ignorance about others. Krish is right in exposing you all as chauvinists, because you all are. Its one thing to be supportive of ones own language in ones own country, but to attack another's language in a separate country and culture is not only dishonest its unethical. This clearly shows to the rest of the readers of this forum why Russians themselves have little respect in the eyes of others. And you know why, its their own fault.

Every Russian I have ever met has only expressed respect for differences between Russians and Ukrainians. But then, I live in Minnesota. Float around in here for awhile, and you see how many Russians feel nothing but contempt for Ukrainian language, and by extension, culture and national identity. They are just fine with Ukrainians, as long as they are Russophone and keep their mouths shut. Colonial mindset.

Gogol was and is one of the favorite writers for Russia and Ukraine. His heritage belongs to both nations. May be culture and literature would unite us...

I'm betting that Andrew is talking more about cooperation than anything else, and that certainly has happened in past history. Ukrainian national aspirations had been muted in the Soviet era, except for some prominent dissidents, who were punished for speaking out, and the Ukrainian emigres, who are seen as lunatic nationalists (largely because Ukrainian national expression was possible only abroad). It is natural that Ukrainian independence would cause tension with Russia. I'm just surprised that it is happening now, instead of 15 years ago.

Even if the languages are similar, it does not give anyone the right to shit on one or the other. If you disapprove of Ukrainian, then just turn your back.

If 67.5% of the population declared Ukrainian as their native language and only 29.6% declared Russian, it means education in Ukraine is getting worse and worse and people start speaking Russian variant of red-necks' dialect of ignorant peasants.
