Something is frighteningly wrong with this country's attitude towards the aged. Our later years should be a time of respect, security and comfort.

Our elderly father who has lived independently until a recent hospital admission now requires ongoing care. His desire is to return to his own home but as he is now not able to manage his own affairs and we do not have power of attorney the local authority tell the family that they can decide how and where he is cared for. Family members have offered to pay for extra care for him at his own home, even one family member has offered to care for Dad at their own home but we are still met with resistance. Our desire is to meet our fathers needs and wishes but we are being prevented from doing this by those who it seems have the power to override all our wishes. Is this all budget related??? is it cheaper to care for someone in a home? Do local authorities have contracts to fill nursing homes???
We are finding it extremely difficult to get care for our father in the place of his choice, we are a supportive and loving family so what chance do other poor old people have with no one to be their advocate? We are having the battle of our lives to get our father returned to his own home with care - its exhausting and time consuming no wonder so many families throw the towel in and allow the 'Care Managers' to do as they wish.
There are caring families out there but they are not allowed to care.
