I have a suggestion: Go the meeting and listent to the very positive reasons for implementing this tax. Express your concerns. Argue your points. Some people in Otero County want things to be better - help us figure out where the funding will come from. If Otero county loses the PILT in two years - as is currently being discussed - a lot of the 'enrichment' programs as well as the service programs are going to go away. We NEED alternative funding. The proposed Quality of Life GRT can be used for senior programs, veteran's programs, the arts, educational programs - all things that make our community a better place in which to live.
You always sound very angry and paranoid. Reach out a little, Skuttlebutt. The satisfaction that you can get from helping, contributing, participating will far outweigh the temporary feeling of 'winning' when you post the nasty comments.

You can't talk any sense into these republiCONS, if there is not an illegal dollar for them to make then they don't want to hear it.

The common sense approach is that in a economy like the one we are in, where hard working people do without when the money is tight, you cut. You do without the programs and things that are not necessities. You prioritize. Many of the programs coming forward to support this tax in the off chance their organization will receive some of this tax money already hold fundraisers to help operate their service. In the true sense, those who want the program to exist, who want to support COPE, CHINS, Flickinger, museums, cancer awareness etc. Donate their money, their time and their support to these organizations. If there is support and a need for them, they will continue to receive support. Passing a tax to fund them is artificial. If the community truly wants them, they will support them without a tax. As for PILT, it is great propaganda to tout its removal, and that excuse has been used many times to further an agenda.
