Here we go again--months and months of crap in the paper about the Rose Festival. I guess they need to have something to print, as they never make the effort to investigate and report important issues.
Uncovering political/judicial corruption in Smith County? Nope.
Verifying statements made by local politicians in interviews? Nope.
Reporting details about where taxpayers' money is being spent? Nope.
Endless crap abou the Rose Festival and who is wearing a pretty dress and whose snotty nosed brat is some kind of courtier or whatever? Heckyeah!
And now we're supposed to PAY $$ to go online and find out how the Queen's sycophants are supposed to bow?
Shame on you Nelson Clyde. Shame on you prostitutes who report for the local news. Shame on you Tyler, Texas for supporting this kind of elitist crap.

I agree on both points. I use to read the paper online a couple times a day every day and even clicked on a few banner ads that interested me but I haven't been back since they decided they were special enough to charge for the drivel they produce.
As for the Rose Queen I think it is high time we move to a modern egalitarian system of choosing young women to represent Tyler. Most people doesn't realize that the queen is chosen by whichever family gives the most money to buy the title.

It may sound like I am waffling here, but I wouldn't change the Rose Festival. The Rose Festival is fine, for what it is: an outdated, ridiculous, pointless pageant for wealthy Tylerites' kids. In my opinion the tens of thousands of dollars spent outfitting these usually less than gorgeous young women could be better spent elsewere, such as on good college educations. I see it as being kind of like clowns--some people find them funny, some do not. I personally don't find the Rose Festival to be one bit entertaining or interesting. But if you want a more 'egalitarian' contest, start your own.
I just don't believe most of Tyler wants to read about that tripe every day in the newspaper for six months, when the event only lasts a few days. My irritation here is mainly at the Tyler Morning TeleCRAP, which is a joke of a newspaper. Things like the Rose Festival serve as filler that they think absolves them from the responsibility of doing the hard work of reporting on some of the very real problems that exist in this community.
