Yes, what a great use of tax dollars! Why not just demolish the rusted hulk and start on the new 4-lane bridge now? I used to commute from Saint Paul to Hastings, and that damned bridge was a HUGE bottleneck -- it is 4 lanes south of river, and 4 lanes all the way to I94, but squeezes down to a 2- lane bridge. Every day, I would wonder: Gosh, will it be Bad, Worse, or a total blanking nightmare today? These repairs occur like replacing the tires and brakes on a beater scheduled for the crusher next month!! At least, with the new tax revenue and Carol Molnau gone, the replacement has moved up many years.

I cross the Hastings bridge several times a week, I will take it any day over the Lafayette bridge on 52.
