Gee, I think I'll go to the casino.
On second thought, it's a lot easier to just open the window and throw out my money. They end result is the same. |

Great for the state! Thanks MGM

Same result, but it's not as much fun throwing it out the window. at least you'd get a night out, sounds like you need it |

This will help to ensure that as the manufacturing jobs continue to exit CT, they'll be replaced with low paying jobs at Foxwoods. But, at least the Governor can say the state has more jobs; they just don't pay anything.

1 http://groups.google.com/group/sci.med.diseas... I shall make it simple. If we stay with oil as a primary means of energy, and do not aggressively invest in energy alternatives, we will have another recession and postpone the inevitable: investing in alternative forms of energy. Postponing it now while times are good for us economically will make it all the harder. A recession means everything, including healthcare, will become even more expensive and less accessible. Our economy must move away from oil as a means of energy and we can thereby cease to support Arab terrorism. This has to do with Bush, because he owns an oil company and has personal financial interest in keeping that industry alive,***which he will bring to White House energy policy.*** Clear? We get Bush, we get more oil and ***lack of investment in energy alternatives, more terrorism, more pollution, a recession...*** We get Gore, we get an investment in energy independence. They will be somewhat tough economic times, but that's exactly the nature of "investment": put off spending what you have today so you will have even more tomorrow. Nobody can argue with that. Let's see, what value does a casino offer the state besides a piece of the spoils from fools and their money?
Do they create anything? No. Is there product a durable? No. Substitute gambling or the more PC gaming label for prostitution, racketeering, or drug trafficking and do you the difference? No? Then you sight is accurate.

1 Here is a link for you Kathleen from one of your favorite sources. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20000522/silvers... http://www.gnn.tv/articles/2301/Some_Inconven... http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php... Now the story is Gore sold all his oil stock. This is probably true because he is the big player in the big scam: carbon trading. He is THE big dog in the carbon trading industry. This is where you Kathleen pay Gore a fee to ease your mind. He takes a big cut for himself and then passes the rest off to companies that build windmills, solar arrays, provide environmental "education", etc. Do you own any stock mutual fund? Do you participate in a pension? Did yo go to a liberal school? All of them invest in energy companies. They invest in oil companies. Finally, your post here is unrelated to the news item and it is a pity you are so filled with hatred. What will you do when a Democrat becomes POTUS? Where will your obsession go then? Will you continue with many more years of therapy or finally accept the fact that people make trade offs against their values to continue living?

Wow, Mike Douglas and Katherine Zeta Jones. Wonder how much they got paid to spend a Saturday night in Connecticut? Between this story and the state ethics lawyer story, can the end not be far away?
Yeah, all those $12 jobs will be great when you can buy a real nice house in Connecticut for 100K. The day is coming. |

Let me start to tell you how bad the "Grand Opening" was for the little guy...
The wait to get in was expected, I was lucky to be in the first group that entered, then the problems began!! 1. By the time we actually got to the casino, after what seemed to be a 1/4 mille walk and down a very steep escalator or stairs, we finally got to the casino. 2. Many machines were out of service. 3. There was a large crowd in there alreaddy, over and above the "Black Tie Guests". 4. As we walked around, trying to find video poker machines, there were very few. 5. The wall separating the walkway around the playing area from the non playing area looked very cheap. 6. Trying to exit the casino and return to the Foxwoods portion was very confusing. I thought I needed a Tribal guide to get back. 7. Once we got back to where we started to wait, the crowd was overwhelming. There was minimal crowd control. There was a backup trying to egress from the MGM walway connector. It was a fire trap and an accident waiting to happen. 8. The overal crowd there at the opening, as we walked back, many, many people were complaining about the same things as I am. Many were also complaining about the type of crowd that some of the "Entertaining Guests" have as followers. Finally, I was not imprressed and WILL NOT return. |

You can always count on Connecticutians to turn good news into bad news! Gosh I love this state!

I agree with all Tom said, although the hotel looked fantastic a nice high end shops were everywhere. The expierence for those "Little Guys" attending the grand opening from the Foxwoods side was overall a very bad expierence. I was not impressed by the way we were treated.

Does anyone agree that the Courant online video clips could use some serious editing? Perhaps they could begin with someone who can hold a video camera without shaking. Then maybe work their way up to actually filming the 'important' parts of an event, not a 15 second clip of the welcoming speech, then a crowd of people passing on an moving path, then a close up of some unknown celeb's ring (if the camera wasnt shaking so much, perhaps the celeb would have been known.)

taken from the above:
"The celebration started Friday for about 300 people, including Gov. M. Jodi Rell. "I have five words to say," said Rell, who was presented with a stuffed toy version of the MGM lion; her husband, Lou, received a cheesecake from Junior's, one of the new restaurants. "The wonder of it all," she said, referring to the casino's promotional slogan." I guess this explains why Governor Rell doesn't care that casino dealers are paid less than minimum wage and with no truly legal justification! We're getting ripped off by the Tribe AND the State! I am a diehard Republican, but she just lost a vote...guess I will have to cross party lines to get rid of a "for sale" governor! Supporting this outrageous event was an ego stroke to her, and proof that she cares NOTHING about the problems faced by the employees of the Tribe's -- most successful businesses in CT and most successful casinos in the world and most of the staff is paid BELOW THE POVERTY LINE FOR CONNECTICUT! |

From the article: Marcia McCormick of Groton, a glass of champagne accessorizing her evening wear, said she was ready to try her gambling luck. "My hope is that because it's new the chances of winning are better. "
Foxwoods machines are not going to pay out. They have to pay for all that construction. |

Craps Dealer,
Are you sure you added up your salary correctly. Sure, there's a pay check PLUS a nice slice of the tips. Many times I've seen an entire table of chips being sorted for the dealers. That must add up to a nice addition to your wages. You do report these, right? |
