Letter: TOP should stick to opera, not fluff
I recently saw a delightful production of "The Barber of Seville" by Townsend Opera performers at the Gallo.

I have had the honor of meeting Mr. Townsend. In fact years ago, I did an NEA on site visit of the organization. I understand why we would want opera companies to do opera. Forever Plaid is obviously not an opera. However, opera companies are struggling to survive and need to find new revenue streams. Opera Pacific, which commissioned by first opera, folded just last year - case in point.
I would suggest that opera companies think more creatively about reaching new audiences. Townsend Opera, for example, is in the heart of one of the largest Latino populations in California. I would suggest that they and other opera companies produce work that will bring in new audiences and continue to do what they do best - opera.

Composer of Qpera who does not know the difference between major and minor keys should not comment.
