First, let's be sure that:

(1) The 1994 Assault Weapons (sic) Ban is re-enacted. You remember, the one that was in effect when Dylan & Klebod committed their massacre at Littleton High School, April 19, 1999.

(2) A national law, crafted after Connecticut's excellent law is enacted: All firearms purchasers must first undergo a rigorous background check, there is a 14-day waiting period for firearms,
each firearm must be registered, and each owner must be licensed and have undergone firearms training. You know, exactly what was on the books in Newtown, CT this last month.

(3) Enact another "tougher" law forbidding the possession, carrying, transportation, introduction, etc. of firearms on school grounds or within 500 feet of school property as we now have on the books.

(4) Commit to a mental institution everyone that suffers from any mental illness, including personality disorders, PTSD, depression, and let's make it easier to commit to mental institutions everyone that is weird, or acts different from anyone else.

(5) Register with your local police anyone who suffers from any mental illness whatsoever, incuding personality disorders, PTSD, depression, etc.

(6) Enact another tougher law making murder, especially of underage children, a capital offense punishable by the death penalty. That should go over real big, especially in New Mexico.
Let's make sure that law enforcement personnel are exempted from this law in New Mexico!

(7) If after all these laws are enacted, anyone commits any mass killings with say a shotgun, a bolt-action rifle, pistols, etc., well, hell, let's just go one to ban those weapons too.

(8) If anyone protests these large-scale bans, then let's enact laws that provide anyone advocating against "common sense gun safety" measures is inciting civil unrest, advocating anarchy and mayhem, and therefore must be criminally insane, and such persons should be locked up in mental institutions as well.

There. That should make everyone feel safer and more secure. That should solve the nagging problem of public shootings, murder, etc. We should call this set of laws the Bath Township, Michigan Memorial Anti-Massacree Public Safety Law, after that town's own
tragedy on May 18, 1927, when a member of their school board murdered his wife and then 38 elementary school children and 4 others. Problem solved, America! I am a Liberal in every sense of the world, except when it comes to abrogating the Bill of Rights. Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: "He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither". The Founding Fathers did NOT object to the People having the SAME KIND of firepower that the national army and the state militias had. Bolt action rifles WERE military rifles, and responsible for some of the largest scale killings, by the millions, during WWI and WWII. A bolt action rifle killed President John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers and many other historic figures.

March 23, 2010, Nanping (Central) China. A man murdered 8 elementary school children, slashed 22 others and one adult seriously WITH A BUTCHER KNIFE.

unfortunately some of this is in the works. legislation has been proposed in congress that would require the veterans admin. to provide the federal NICS database all veterans the VA has deemed unable to control their monetary veterans benefits. NICS checks when a firearms purchase application is made would deny the purchase. How big of a stretch is it then to expand the VA diagnosis of PTSD or depression to these same rules. about 75% of current military active and discharged are diagnosed with these. this would fall in line with obamas admin hatred of the current and ex military displayed with the DHS statement 3 years back that military and veterans were prone to militant extremism and needed to be watched and controlled.

Umm...these aren't really common sense ideas...

Try something more like:

Limiting the amount of guns a person can own/register for depending on three classes...

Protection class: Would include sidearms only, limited to 2 per person. Assault weapons banned from this category.

Hunter class: Hunting rifles and guns only. Assault weapons banned from this category. Limited to between 5 and 10 person.

Collector's class: Assault weapons not banned from this BUT bullets banned from this category UNLESS they are civil war or revolutionary war era guns.

Higher tax on bullets for first two classes.

Armed security sentries at schools.

Reform mental evaluations...

{No registration...much of what was mentioned in the first post would still not have addressed the issue of this gunman.}

I'm a vet who is 100% disabled and among my "diagnoses" is PTSD. When you get your letter of award, it states whether or not you are "competent". Mine says I am competent. That means you get to handle your own check, disbursements, purchases, etc. What I had heard was that some group was trying to get the Department of Veterans Affairs to hand over to the Justice Department (for NCIC inclusion) the name, date of birth, social security number, distinguising characteristics such as marks, scars, tattoos, of any veteran adjudged insane and/or seriously mentally ill and prone to violence/violent outbursts. I don't know if they will succeed. I have not heard yet that the sole classification of "competent" or "incompetent" would be the determining factor for inclusion into the National Criminal Information Computer data base. There are other databases as well. For example, the DEA has their own, NADDIS, which I THINK might mean NArcotics Dealer & Distributor Information System. I don't know if a system has been developed to make sure all these different databases interphase and share information or not. I hope they have made them so. Thanks for the tip, though.

National Criminal Information Center. Not fully awake yet. Hey, Knightmare. You remind me of Sheldon in "The Big Bang Theory" with your inability to perceive sarcasm.

FYI: Forgot to comment on your other point(s). Republicans talk a good game, but it was actually under President Obama's administration that many of the Veterans who had for decades been given very poor care and denied disability benefits saw their treatment improve markedly and their disability claims approved.
I am one of them.

It sounds to me like KM is part of the Brady bunch, unless he was attempting humor. No amount of laws will keep Evil from making occasional appearances. What we need is a better mental health system, not more laws governing it. Evil comes in many forms and trying to legislate against every form will never work. Keep the Second Amendment framed the way the founders wrote and intended it. Autos combined with DWI kill more than about anything else and there are laws against DWI but enforcing them has not proven effective, as would more gun laws.

Has anyone asked how long it took the gunman after he shot his mom to get to the school? Basically what time did he shoot his mom...what time did he get to the school and if the police were called after he shot his mom by neighbors before he got to the school?

Just giving some suggestions. Truth is...you're partially right...no amount of gun control will keep guns from every psycho...

However, gun advocates can't JUST trust in guns either...

There is a fundamental issue here that God is trying to get our attention...to turn back to Him...to trust in HIM alone...

Hurricane Sandy...now Sandy Hook? Our lives are built on sandy ground on this country...not on solid rock ground...

now the CT shooter along with the theater shooter, mall shooter, VA tech shooter, giffords shooter have all been exposed as having mental problems

obamas next executive order may read
..........
All persons age 6 and up will report immediately to newly set up federal mental health facilities known in the past as FEMA camps for mental evaluation. Any deemed having any mental condition will be housed at the camps until they can be normalized and re-integrated. Military and Veterans will have a special line and immediately be interred. LBGT are exempt from the testing. Since the military cannot be trusted because of the large number of PTSD induced paranoia, the TSA will be armed and in control of all functions the military used to control and in charge of internments and running of the camps. Have a nice day.

pawn posing as a knight: "There is a fundamental issue here that God is trying to get our attention...to turn back to Him...to trust in HIM alone..." I'll continue to trust in the Law/Justice System, my own abilities and my guns to protect myself and family. Your non-existant, fairy tale being has failed because he/she/it doesn't exist -- That's "reality."
