Also, did the train strike the truck, or did the truck strike the train? To answer your question about the train striking the truck or the truck hitting the train from my point of view seeing the truck up front and real close the truck hit the train. I seen the truck it was not a pretty site. PLEASE LEARN ENGLISH AND LEARN HOW TO SPELL!

I'm thinking this poor man must have had a medical problem that caused him to not even attempt to stop. Rest in Peace...and I am certainly glad, no one else was hurt in this accident. Funny how this 'medical problem' wasn't so serious that he couldn't dial his cell phone. If you're able to push 7 buttons, you're able to hit your brakes or at least switch off your key. Good thing he didn't get in FRONT of the train. Since the train was running in 'suicide mode'(engine in back, pushing), he probably would have killed a number of people in the front car.

I said this would happen because all the cry babies that live down there didn't want the train whistle blowing for a few seconds to warn people they were coming. It was interrupting their precious TV time. Are you people happy now, your quiet zone is partly responsible for causing this death.

That may be true, however this person chose to drive through the lights & the crossing gate and run into the train. Doesn't seem like a horn would have deterred him/her since lights and the gate didn't. But your point about the no blow zone is well taken.

I think you need to go to dictionary.com and read the definition of news.

86 years old, yakking on a cell phone. Just think, if cell phones were outlawed or never invented, this person may have lived to 101. Technology kills. Oh, and a crossing with no gates, and no horn blowing because of a quiet area? stop, look, listen.

I like how you are blaming everyone else for this person driving straight into a train. Flashing lights, train horns blaring, gates, or nothing--I always look both ways twice as I approach and before I cross a railroad crossing. Gates, whistles, and flashing lights are only there for the people who don't care enough about their own safety to look before they cross. I have yet to hear of anyone who got hit by a train seconds after stopping, looking, and listening. Quit blaming everyone for this mans negligence.

BTW, quiet zones are only implemented after ADDITIONAL warning and safeguard measures are in place. They can't put in a quiet zone without double-gated crossings and other things. Do some research before you cry to the forum.

One report I heard said that this 82 year old man was using a cell phone. Maybe he was calling 911 to get help for some medical problem. We will never know. So sorry for your loss family and friends of this man.

So sorry for your loss family and friends of this man. Cell phone use while driving is illegal. If he was having a medical problem, he should have pulled over to a safe place before endangering himself and others just to use a cell phone.

I think it is high time for us to start padding the sides of trains. If this train would have had no less than 18 feet of high density polyurethane foam on both sides of it, the precious old man would still be alive. His cute little truck would have been caressed gently as it encountered the lush padding of the Rail Runner Express. This lack of padding is what caused the accident and is clearly the fault of the city of Albuquerque, George W. Bush, and Dick Cheney.
